Tiger Strikes Asteroid New York (Brooklyn, NY) is excited to announce our open call for artists to participate in the sixth year of our annual Flat File Program. The 2019 program will run for one full year, from December 2018 through November 2019. The program will kick off with an event in our gallery in December 2018 comprised of works selected from the new season’s flat file.

Individual works from the Flat File Program will be selectively highlighted throughout the year in the gallery, on our website, through social media (Facebook/Instagram) as well as shared as part of our press releases with our mailing list; the Flat File will also be accessible to gallery visitors for browsing. Works included in the Flat File Program will be available for purchase throughout the year on our website. TSA will also produce a catalog that includes all of the artists in the flat file

Submission Details:

• Open to professional working artists only. Currently enrolled students are not eligible to apply.
  
• Artists who currently have work in our Flat File are not eligible to apply this year.
  
• All work for consideration must be unframed and unmounted.
  
• Dimensions should be no larger than 16 x 20 inches, with a maximum thickness of ¼ inch or less.
  
• Submission fee is $15, non-refundable and for up to four jpegs.
  
• Maximum retail price of each work submitted should be less than $1,000.
  
• All submissions must be in by 11:59pm EDT on July 31, 2018 for consideration.
  
• Selected Artists will be notified in early Fall of 2018.
  
• Specific works submitted to the open call must be available for the Flat File. If an accepted work is not available for any reason it may not be switched with replacement.

Guest Curator: Lissa Rivera, curator Museum of Sex (NY). Rivera is a photographer and curator based in NYC. Since 2016, Lissa Rivera has curated and produced exhibitions at the Museum of Sex, with a focus on contemporary art. As a curator, Rivera strives to include traditionally underrepresented voices regardless of formal education or exhibition history. Recent shows have been widely covered and celebrated in the media. Rivera has worked with collaborators including Marina Garcia-Vasquez of VICE Media and Frank Maresca of Ricco/Maresca Gallery.

Highpoint is pleased to announce Stand Out Prints, our fourth international juried print exhibition. This exhibition will fill Highpoint's 1,000+ square feet of gallery space with select impressions of contemporary printmaking. The exhibition will run from September 7th through October 6th, 2018 with an opening reception taking place Friday, September 7th from 6:30-9pm.

Juror: Crawford Alexander Mann III is the Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. He previously worked at the Chrysler Museum (Norfolk, VA) and the RISD Museum (Providence, RI), following studies at Yale University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His responsibilities cover all periods of American art, from colonial to contemporary, with particular interest in the nineteenth century and in transnational exchange.

This is an exhibition of unframed work and Highpoint pays for return shipping within the U.S.!

Eligibility:
Artists must be 18 years of age or older
Work must have been completed within the last two years (since 2016)
While non-traditional or digital output is accepted as a print element, submissions must utilize some form of traditional print media (Lithography, Relief, Intaglio, Screenprinting, Monotype, Collograph)
Individual artworks may not exceed 8 feet (96 inches / 243 centimeters) in any direction
Three-dimensional work may be submitted
Prints will be displayed unframed behind glass cut to paper size (unless otherwise specified by the artist)
Each artist may submit 1-3 images for consideration (including detail images)
Prizes: $3,000 in cash prizes and $300 in retail prizes will be awarded by the juror.

Entry Fee: Non-refundable handling fee of $30.

Sales: Highpoint will retain 20% of proceeds from exhibition sales. Work does not need to be available for purchase in order to be eligible for this exhibition. All unsold work will be returned after the exhibition in its original packaging.

Agreement: Submission of artwork constitutes an agreement that allows Highpoint to photograph and reproduce accepted work for promotional purposes and allows work to remain on display at Highpoint for the full duration of the exhibition. Submission also grants Highpoint and the juror permission to make final presentation decisions.

Liability: Work will be insured the entire time it is on Highpoint's premises. If damage occurs and the piece can be repaired, liability will be limited to the cost of repair. Damages incurred in transit to and from HP are the responsibility of the artist.

Shipping: All accepted work must be packaged in sturdy, reusable containers. Prints may be shipped rolled in mailing tubes or flat in well-padded containers. Packaging, shipping, and related costs to Highpoint are the responsibility of the artist. Highpoint will pay return shipping costs for artists located in the continental United States. Artists outside the continental United States will be assessed return shipping charges.

The Chicago Print Crawl is an annual, self-guided tour of printmaking production, publishing, exhibition and sales venues throughout the City of Chicago, organized by Spudnik Press Cooperative.

The inaugural event is Sunday, June 24, 2018 from 12-6 pm. A free after party will be held at Spudnik from 6-8 pm.

Eligible venues include:
• Artist's studios engaged in on site printmaking
• Nonprofit printmaking shops, exhibition spaces or galleries showing prints
• Commercial printmaking shops, preferably also engaged in fine art production
• Commercial galleries or other for profit spaces exhibiting and selling prints.

Chicago Print Crawl participants agree to:
• be open to the public on Sunday, June 24 for the entire duration of the posted hours
• offer demos or tours (if appropriate) on the day of the event
• charge no visitor entry fees to the Chicago Print Crawl
• provide maps to visitors upon request (maps may be downloaded and printed)

Techne is a juried exhibition examining the relationship between art and science as methods of making sense of the world around us.

Participating artists are asked to create an original piece of artwork in any medium that is related to science in some aspect. Examples include (but are not limited to) a new artistic technique in relation to a scientific study or theory, the use of non traditional materials in the creation of a piece, or the exploration of a scientific notion in the process of making. The goal should be a pursuit of new concepts and technologies, within science and art together, to fundamentally change how we perceive our experience and/or reality.

ELIGIBILITY/MEDIA
This is a juried visual art competition and exhibition that is open to two-dimensional, three-dimensional, and digital artists, with no age restrictions (under 18 year old applicants will need a parent or guardian’s consent and signature on the back of this form to apply), working in any medium, including painting, drawing, printmaking, metal or wood working, photography, sculpture, etching, video, etc. The medium is pretty much wide open, however performance art is not an acceptable medium for this exhibition. Work may not exceed the size of 35” wide x 82” high unless it can be broken down and re-assembled within the gallery. (Basically if we can’t get it through our front door, we cannot exhibit it).

AWARDS
First Prize – $250 and 2019 exhibition at Arthaus Projects. Second Prize – $150. Third Prize – $75. All entries that are not selected for the exhibition will be displayed as part of an online exhibition.

ENTRY FEE
Artists may submit up to three (3) works for the non-refundable fee of $25 or (1) work for the non-refundable fee of $10.

All entries must be submitted electronically. No physical work will be accepted for the initial jurying process. Exhibition inclusions will be juried from digital media, so quality is essential.

Northwest Arts Center announces an open call for artists worldwide to enter work for its upcoming Americas 2018: All Media Exhibition. Works in any medium, traditional or experimental, including photographs, qualify. All works must be original and not measure over 60 inches in any direction. Work must be ready to exhibit, completed within the last two years, and not previously exhibited in an Americas 2000 exhibition. It is preferred that two dimensional work be framed and protected by clear acrylic glazing.

JUROR
Scott Parsons is an international award-winning artist who has received numerous public art commissions across the United States and Canada. His portfolio includes percent-for-art and private commissions for churches, museums, airports, hospitals, research facilities, university buildings and transportation centers. Parsons’ work has been reviewed in more than 100 publications, including Architectural Record, Sculpture, Art in America, Stained Glass Quarterly, Public Art Review, Leonardo, the European Journal of American Culture, High Performance, and Museum Anthropology. His work has been exhibited in the US, Germany, Italy, and Poland. The artist received his M.F.A. from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and his bachelor’s degree in art from Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he now teaches printmaking, architectural art glass, and drawing.

Cash and Purchase Awards: five Merit Awards and one Best of Show. Best of Show earns a solo exhibition in 2019 and an invitation to the Best of the Best exhibit.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION:
The Center for Contemporary Printmaking’s Footprint International Competition 2018, is an opportunity for the presentation of current trends and innovations in contemporary printmaking within the bounds of the one square foot (12” x 12”) configuration. The square format was uncommon in art until the advent of abstraction and presents distinct challenges of composition and expression. Within these precise limits, artists must confront a space and create visual order and formal structure.

ABOUT CCP:
The Center for Contemporary Printmaking is a nonprofit printmaking studio and gallery dedicated to the art of the print. At CCP artists can work independently, collaborate with master printers, or enroll in workshops conducted by nationally recognized artists. We provide studios, equipment, and technical expertise. Exhibitions of original prints are held regularly in the gallery, and diverse educational programs are offered for experienced and emerging artists. Footprint International is held every other year, alternating with CCP’s International Miniature Print Competition.

Susan Tallman, Art in Print, Editor-in-Chief.

Susan Tallman is an art historian who has written extensively on the history and culture of the print, as well as on issues of authenticity, reproduction and multiplicity. Her books include The Contemporary Print: from Pre-Pop to Postmodern (Thames and Hudson),The Collections of Barbara Bloom (Steidl). Most recently she co-authored the catalogue for the British Museum exhibition, The American Dream: Pop to the Present. She is Editor-in-Chief of the journal and website Art in Print, and her writing has appeared in Art in America, Parkett, Print Quarterly, Arts Magazine and numerous books and museum catalogues. She has lived and worked in New York, Amsterdam and Berlin, and currently teaches in the Department of Art History, Theory and Criticism at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.



Eligibility: : All fine-art printmaking mediums, including woodcut, intaglio, lithography, screenprint, monotype, and original digital media may be utilized. (No drawings, photographs, or direct reproductions are eligible.) Art must be hand-pulled and generated using at least one traditional printmaking method. Computer generated art is eligible only if it incorporates other methods of hand pulled printing or handwork. Image size must be exactly 12 x 12 inches (30.5 x 30.5 cm). Outside dimensions of the printing paper may not exceed 18 x 18 inches (45.7 x 45.7 cm). Paper beyond these dimensions on accepted prints will be trimmed to the dimensions required for the exhibition. Only two-dimensional works will be accepted

Prizes and Awards: $1,000 in cash prizes and purchase awards will be awarded.

In addition to the $1,000 in prizes, the Awagami Paper Award, $300 (50 sheets) in editioning paper will be awarded to one artist.


How to Enter: Submissions are accepted only via CaFÉ (www.callforentry.org) by March 10, 2018. There is no additional fee to use the CaFÉ online application system. All entries must be uploaded using this online system. Please do not upload digital images that contain borders or text info that is not part of the original work.

Entry Fee: Each artist may submit up to three prints. The submission fee for the first print is $20 for CCP members and $50 for non-members and international submissions. Each additional print submission is $10 per print. The fee must be paid online via the CaFÉ online application system or, in the form of a check or money order, made payable to Center for Contemporary Printmaking. (Any currency other than US dollars will not be accepted.) Do not send cash. Prints donated in lieu of payment of the entry fee will not be accepted.
