Gormley Gallery at Notre Dame of Maryland University is now accepting entries for the 30th National Drawing & Print Competitive Exhibition. The juror for the 2019 exhibition is Ginevra Shay, former Artistic Director of The Contemporary. The show will run from March 18 through April 26, 2019. Eligibility and Media
Drawings and prints (not photography) in any medium up to 60 inches high, framed are eligible with no limitations as to color, surface or materials.
All drawings and prints must be original works of art.
Each artist may submit up to 3 works on online only.
No mailed or emailed entries will be accepted.

Selection Process
Initial jury will be of online submissions received by January 15, 2019. Notification will be by email. Be sure to add gormleygallery@ndm.edu to your contacts so that notification email is not sent to your junk folder.

Accepted drawings and prints received by March 4 will be juried for purchase prize awards at the value set by the artist. No substitutions will be accepted.

Works selected for purchase prize awards will become the property of Notre Dame of Maryland University.

All accepted works must be ready to exhibit: framed with plexiglass (no glass), wired and ready to hang.
Ship by UPS, no FedEx, using strong, re­usable crates or cardboard cartons. No packing peanuts please.

PrintAustin is thrilled to announce the open call for its 6th annual juried international exhibition, The Contemporary Print. Presented in collaboration with Big Medium, this year’s exhibition will be juried by Dr. Anna Katherine Brodbeck, and be held at Big Medium Gallery during PrintAustin 2019.

The Contemporary Print is a survey of traditional printmaking techniques and innovative approaches in contemporary printmaking. While non-traditional or digital output is accepted as a print element, submissions must utilize traditional print media as their primary technique. These include lithography, relief, intaglio, silkscreen, photo polymer plate (i.e. SolarPlates), and monotype.

ABOUT THE JUROR Dr. Anna Katherine Brodbeck has served as the Nancy and Tim Hanley Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art at the Dallas Museum of Art since January 2017. A Ph.D. in art history, Dr. Brodbeck earned her master’s and doctorate degrees from the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University, where she focused on Latin American art, as well as Islamic Art.

From 2013 to 2016, Dr. Brodbeck acted as the Associate Curator at Carnegie Museum of Art for a retrospective of the contemporary Brazilian artist Hélio Oiticica, co-organized with the Art Institute of Chicago and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Previously, she was a curatorial research assistant at The Frick Collection, where she conducted research for Picasso’s Drawings, 1890–1921: Reinventing Tradition (2011). She worked at The Museum of Modern Art on the 2007 exhibition Richard Serra Sculpture: Forty Years as a curatorial intern, as well as gallery assistant at the Bronx Museum of the Arts.

ELIGIBILITY Open to local and international artists 18 years or older. Any 2-D or 3-D work including ceramics, sculpture, mixed media, and artist books that uses printmaking as the sole or primary technique in its execution are eligible. Work cannot exceed 72 inches (183 cm) in any direction.

Hot Off the Press is a juried exhibition of contemporary prints open to artists working in California. The juried show is presented in conjunction with Posada & the Mexican Penny Press, an exhibition of prints by José Guadalupe Posada and his contemporaries on view at the Carnegie Arts Center in the fall of 2018. Posada utilized his skills as a printer and graphic artist to create works that recorded history, informed the public and stimulated the imagination. Contemporary printmakers continue these traditions as they explore creativity and how art functions in current political and social discourse.

Artists from throughout California are invited to submit work that uses printmaking media and techniques; there is no theme or restriction on subject matter or size.

Dates of Exhibition: October 17, 2018 – January 27, 2019

Media: All fine art printmaking media (intaglio, relief, lithograph, screenprint, monoprint) are eligible. Works in mixed media that include some printmaking techniques may also be submitted. Art must be hand-pulled and generated using at least one traditional printmaking method. Computer generated art is eligible only if it incorporates other methods of hand-pulled printing or handwork. No drawings, photographs, or direct reproductions are eligible.

Awards: Grand Prize $500, Two Awards of Merit $125, Four Honorable Mentions $50

Paper In Particular is an annual, juried exhbition held by the Columbia College art galleries. The exhibition showcases the very best in art that incorporates paper as a primary element. Prints, drawings, photographs, digital images, paintings, sculpture, etc., are all eligible.

The 40th Annual Paper In Particular exhibition will run from February 18. - April 5, 2019.

Juror: Eric Lutz

Eric Lutz is associate curator of prints, drawings, and photographs at the Saint Louis Art Museum. In 2017, he curated the St Louis presentation of Thomas Struth: Nature and Politics. Since joining the Museum in 2005, he has curated more than 30 exhibitions. He earned a doctorate in art history from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He served as a visiting lecturer at the University of California, Irvine. Lutz has also worked at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and the Huntington Library and Art Gallery.

The International Print Exchange is an unjuried print exchange with no assigned theme, open to all, that celebrates fine art printmaking. The IPE is a self-funded project organised by Green Door Printmaking Studio. Our goal is simple; to share prints, promote printmaking and showcase the inspirational, accomplished and passionate printmakers all over the world that utilize contemporary printmaking today.

“Pressing Matters, 2018” Is Whiteaker Printmakers' second juried printmaking exhibition, and will be held at the Emerald Art Center in neighboring Springfield, Oregon. All traditional (hand-pulled) printmaking techniques are eligible for entry. No digital prints, please. Juror is Margaret Prentice, Professor Emerita in the Art Department at the University of Oregon. Four entries will be selected for cash awards up to $500.00.

The Pacific States Biennial National juried printmaking exhibition was established by the Art Department Print Studio at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo in 1982 and is now the Pacific States Biennial North American. The exhibition is open to all artists 18 years or older presently residing anywhere on the North American continent, its islands, and outlying US territories. This premier Hawaiʻi biennial exhibition is hosted in conjunction with the Campus Center Gallery with support from the Student Activities Council and the East Hawaiʻi Cultural Center.

The American Print Alliance in conjunction with the Art Department of Kennesaw State University is asking artists to create prints in a major tradition of our art – commentary on politics and the impact of printmaking on actual events.

The majority of the work must be printmaking; collage, photography, hand coloring and other additions are permitted, but must not interfere with the artwork’s essential character as a two-dimensional, easy-to-disseminate print. Submissions must be original prints, reproductions will not be accepted. The Alliance accepts traditional and non-traditional printmaking, including computer-manipulated and -printed (inkjet or laser) images that are original prints and not reproductions of artwork in other media. Prints may include text that complements the imagery, not text that carries a disproportionate emotional charge.
