San Francisco Center for the Book is pleased to announce that we are seeking submissions for Reclamation: Artists' Books on the Environment. The exhibition will open at SFCB in Summer 2021 as one of many worldwide actions in response to Extraction: Art on the Edge of the Abyss, a manifesto issued by Peter Koch in 2018. Reclamation: Artists' Books on the Environment will subsequently travel, accompanied by an illustrated catalogue with essays by the curator and jurors.

Reclamation: Artists' Books on the Environment will consider our relationship to the environment at this moment on the planet. Book artists create works that involve, educate, and inspire action. Book art takes many forms. Sculptural bookworks, for example, command attention so that viewers are compelled to reflect upon the issues explored in the work. Paginated artists’ books rely on a reader’s touch to encourage a measured exploration of complicated topics, one page opening at a time. Many compelling works integrate pagination with sculptural and material richness to create a multi-sensory reading experience.

The book form's expressive strengths offer a perfect vehicle for reclamation, the focus of this show, which refers to the process of claiming something back or of reasserting a right.

Reclamation: Artists' Books on the Environment will consider our relationship to the environment at this moment on the planet. Topics may include:
-Works that explore environmental concerns or expose environmental threat or degradation under way;
-Works that celebrate beauty in nature as a means of “bringing copies of itself into being,”[1] as in the protection of wild lands;
-Works that explore cultures such as those of indigenous peoples that are directed by a respect for the earth;
-Works that delve into conflicts faced by communities struggling to transition from a heritage energy economy (such as those supported by coal or lumber) into a clean energy economy.

Reclamation seeks to inspire and educate visitors to reflect on climate change and its impacts locally, nationally and internationally. At the same time, the exhibition endeavors to avoid dualistic arguments common to today’s divisive political scene.

This exhibit is open to handmade book and paper arts-related works created as either edition or one-of-a-kind. Works should reflect the highest level of craft. Artists' books, sculptural books, book objects, altered books, installations, zines, and broadsides are all encouraged. Visual artists, printmakers who are working in any print medium, especially digital print, digital print combined with traditional print techniques are invited to the exhibition titled “Structures. Between Organic and Geometry”. We are looking art works which visual form based on play of various structures, inspired especially by living and non-living nature, which we can find in a landscape, like structures of the trees, stones, rocks etc. We are in Kielce, city located in the centre of the oldest mountains of Europe, with many geological preserve areas. This magnificant place is full of pictoresque views, mistic atmosphere, where you can find recorded in the rocks history of the world. We would like to close to the structure of the nature, structure of the world, close to the story about Earth.

Exhibition is an introduction to the summer art project "INTERgraphis. International Academy of Printmaking in Intermedia Space" organized by the Institute of Visual Arts (Faculty of Art), the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce in July 2021. Exhibition will be presented in the Institute's XS Gallery and documented by the digital publication with critical texts.

Submissions should include: artist bio (not more than 300 words, file doc x) and artist statement (not more than 300 words, file docx), artist photo (50mm x 50 mm, 300 dpi, jpg, rgb), one file of the art work to the print for the exhibition (not bigger that 297mm x 210 mm, 300dpi, RGB), reproduction of the art work to the publication (300dpi, shorter side 15 cm). Each artist whose art work will be accepted to the exhibition will received confirmation as well as digital publication about art project. Participation at the exhibition is free. Prints will be prepared by Organizer.

Site:Brooklyn is seeking work for its upcoming printmaking exhibition. We are looking for a wide variety of work, in order to best represent that state of contemporary printmaking. We are accepting work in a number of mediums, including serigraphy, letterpress, calligraphy, etching, woodcut, lithography, linocut, drypoint, mezzotint, mono-print, solar plates and book-making. Digital and photographic elements may be used only as a supporting element.

ABOUT THE JUROR:
Laura G. Einstein is currently Manager of the Mezzanine Gallery at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. She has more than thirty years’ experience in curating and museum work. Einstein has worked as Interim Head and Assistant Curator of the Asian Art Department at Yale University Art Gallery and lecturer at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and at the IBM Gallery of Science and Art, among other institutions. Einstein served as Executive Director at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk, Connecticut.

PRESENTATION:
1. Maximum Size: 72” X 60” X 6” D
2. All artwork must be suitably framed to a professional standard. All framed work must use Plexiglas, except hand-delivered work less than 24” x 30”. Wall mounted sculpture, canvas and wood panels do not require a frame. No clip frames, saw-tooth hangers or taped edges are permitted.
3. Work must be wired or have a cleat attachment and be ready for hanging. A label must be affixed to the back of the work that indicates which end is the top and includes the following: Artist Name, Title, Medium, Dimensions, and Price. This information must correspond with the Accepted image as listed on Notification form. No artwork may be substituted.
4. Work cannot be withdrawn, nor sales shipped, before the end of the exhibit.

SHIPPING:
Artists will be responsible for delivery and return shipping of all their artwork. The artist assumes all responsibility for insuring artwork against shipping damage or loss.

LIABILITY:
Site:Brooklyn is not responsible for any damage, breakage, replacement or cost associated with any damage or breakage that may have occurred during transport or unpacking the work. With the submission of artwork into the “Ink:New Prints” Exhibition, the artist agrees to all the terms and conditions set forth in this prospectus.

Our conceptual interests and engagement for this exhibition are derived from, Staying with the Trouble: Making Kin in the Chthulucene [Duke University Press, 2016] by Donna J. Haraway (Professor Emerita in the History of Consciousness Department and Feminist Studies Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz). Sympoiesis refers to, the sharing of process through collective creation, a making with, rather than a self-making (Autopoiesis). We encourage all applicants to interpret this term broadly. Perhaps consider the following:
-How does shifting individuals towards collective creation offer new modes of thinking or making?
-How do the various materials and processes of printmaking operate in concert with artists collectively as a form of Sympoiesis?
-How is printmaking a medium that encourages community collaboration?

Eligibility:
All forms of traditional and experimental print media are eligible to apply for this exhibition: Lithography, Intaglio, Relief, Serigraphy, Monotype, Cyanotype, Risograph, Zines, or any other alternative matrix related to prints. Collectives and individual artists working through prints on paper, textiles, or other substrates including installation and print-based sculptural forms are encouraged to apply to this call.

IPCNY’s New Prints Program was created in 2000 as a platform for artists from a wide range of backgrounds working in the medium of print. The biannual open-call exhibitions feature prints in a variety of formats and techniques produced in the preceding twelve months. Juried by stakeholders in the field, the resulting exhibitions offer snapshots of what artists are contending with in the moment, leading a sense of immediacy to each presentation.

The New Prints 2020/Winter Open Call is juried by Ariana Barat, artist, activist, and Printmaking Facilities Manager at Parsons School of Design; Gregory Burnet, artist, Master Printer, and Owner of Burnet Editions, New York; Orit Mardkha-Tenzer, artist, graphic designer, and instructor of graphic design at City College of New York; and Keris Salmon, visual artist and storyteller.

Surface Impressions intends to connect artists and audiences to the 21st century language of relief printmaking as a viable artistic engagement for today.

Seventy-five prints will be selected by Juror Mark Pascale, the Janet and Craig Duchossois Curator of Prints and Drawings, the Art Institute of Chicago. Fifty prints will be on display at the LUX Center for the Arts, and 25 will be on display at Constellation Studios.

This inaugural biennial of relief prints here in the center of America will showcase artists from around the country and abroad, all selected from an open call for entries. The works on exhibition focus on the role of the relief print as a means of cultural critique and exploration of this ancient but newly invigorated discipline as practiced and defined by today’s artists.

The LUX Center for the Arts, in cooperation with Constellation Studios, will present ‘Surface Impressions,’ an ambitious exhibition focusing on hand-produced relief prints from woodblock, linoleum cut, wood engraving, and mixed media relief prints.

This showcase will bring fine art prints to the forefront, enabling Lincoln, the LUX Center for the Arts, and Constellation Studios to join in a world-wide conversation about creative innovations in prints.

PrintAustin is thrilled to announce the open call for its 7th annual juried international exhibition, The Contemporary Print. Presented in collaboration with Big Medium, this year’s exhibition will be juried by Claudia Zapata and be held at Big Medium gallery during PrintAustin 2020.

The call for submissions closes on November 1.

The Contemporary Print is a survey of traditional printmaking techniques and innovative approaches in contemporary printmaking. While non-traditional or digital output is accepted as a print element, submissions must utilize traditional print media as their primary technique. These include lithography, relief, intaglio, silkscreen, photo polymer plate (i.e. SolarPlates), and monotype. Solely digital and photographic prints are not eligible. ABOUT BIG MEDIUM
Big Medium is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting contemporary art in Texas. Big Medium produces the East Austin Studio Tour, the West Austin Studio Tour, the Texas Biennial, and presents innovative exhibitions throughout the year in the Big Medium Gallery. Big Medium provides affordable studio space to artists, and partners with various organizations in Texas to help foster the arts and facilitate an inclusive cultural dialogue between artists and their communities.

ABOUT THE JUROR
Texas-born curator, artist, and doctoral candidate, Claudia Zapata, joins us from the Smithsonian American Art Museum, where she currently acts as the Latinx art curatorial assistant in support of their upcoming exhibition ¡Printing the Revolution! The Rise and Impact of Chicano Graphics, 1965-Now. Claudia's passion for Chicanx and Latinx art, and identity-based exhibitions has inspired her previous work as the Curator of Exhibitions and Programs at Mexic-Arte Museum, the Co-Founder of the Puro Chingón Collective, and now the pursuit of a Ph.D. in Rhetorics of Art, Space and Culture at Southern Methodist University.

AWARDS
The PrintAustin Award ($500 cash) is given to one outstanding artist part of The Contemporary Print 2020.

ELIGIBILITY
Open to local and international artists 18 years or older. Any 2-D or 3-D work including ceramics, sculpture, mixed media, and artist books that uses printmaking as the sole or primary technique in its execution are eligible. Work cannot exceed 72 inches (183 cm) in any direction. Works that have exhibited in past The Contemporary Print exhibitions are not eligible to be considered for this year’s exhibition. Artists are invited to use the power of the multiple to make connections between human and animal ecologies. Participate in an international collaborative printmaking experiment. Our goal is to celebrate the polyphonic: using image, words and sound.

Augurs of the future and messengers, beings of air, land and sea, birds are creatures whose symbolic and actual natures merge, linking us all in powerful ways across the globe. At a time of climate catastrophe, record human population upheavals, and habitat destruction, looking at the forces that shape the lives of migratory birds can help communicate tangible insights into our current situation and how best to move forward.

The first installation is scheduled at the Nine Gallery (in Portland, Oregon, USA) December 2019. Other venues are planned for 2020.

Artists are asked to submit two or more printed impressions that represent a migratory bird from their region. One of your prints will become a template for community members, both children and adults, to augment. Workshops led by scientists and activists will be part of this process.

Mediums accepted are all two-dimensional printed works on paper - lithography, relief printing, stencils, monoprints, digital, rubbings - proofs and ghost prints accepted. Original work ONLY.

Writers can submit a short form response to the theme by filling out the online form. Where possible, we will provide artists and community members a chance to incorporate your words into a bird print, with the proper attribution.

Sound will be incorporated into the installation via QR codes, thanks to renowned ornithologist Donald Kroodsma's interactive book, Listening to a Continent Sing: Birdsong by Bicycle from the Atlantic to the Pacific. People can contribute other content via QR codes.

In the spirit of Mail Art, each print submitted will be part of the collaborative project and will not be returned. Artists will get the final documentation of the project in a digital packet.

Each bird should have this information on the back of the print or incorporated into the image itself:

+ Common name of the bird and, if possible, scientific name

The Delta National Small Prints Exhibition was born of a deep respect and passion for printmaking in a small format. The originator, Evan Lindquist, a master engraver whose work most often has been relatively diminutive, conceived of the show in 1996.

Juror: Gretchen L. Wagner, Andrew W. Mellon Fellow for Prints, Drawings, and Photographs, Saint Louis Art Museum

Eligibility: Open to all artists 18 and older. Submissions must be original works on paper, created within the last two years, including but not limited to, digital, intaglio, lithographic, photographic, relief, serigraphic and stencil processes. Monotypes are also eligible but reproductions of pre-existing works are not. Prints exhibited in a previous DNSPE are not eligible.

Display: Each selected print will be framed by the Bradbury Art Museum during the exhibition. In order to ensure that your print will fit into the frame, each print must arrive matted in or mounted on a horizontal or vertical, 16 x 20, 20 x 24, 24 x 24, or 24 x 32 inch white or off-white mat.

If your print is not matted or mounted, it cannot be displayed.

Works Accepted: Results of the selection process will be emailed to all entrants the week of November 11, 2019. Each print selected for exhibition must be received by Bradbury Art Museum no later than December 11, 2019.

Images and Catalog: Each artist may submit up to three prints, represented in a digital format (jpeg preferred) with a resolution no less than 300 dpi at 4 x 5 inches or 1200 x 1500 pixels. The digital files must be print quality as all works selected for exhibition will be reproduced in a full-color catalog. By entering this exhibition each artist grants consent for the use of submitted images for reproduction in the catalog, for publicity and for educational purposes. Images without an artist's signature are preferred.

Awards: Purchase Awards and Juror’s Merit Awards will be offered and announced at the opening of the exhibition. Each artist receiving an award will have their artist’s statement of 100 words or less printed in the exhibition catalog. Typically half of the show is purchased for the A-State Permanent Collection of Art and by the viewing audience.

Entry Fee: A $35 (nonrefundable) entry fee permits each artist to submit up to three prints.

Sales: The sale of prints in the exhibition will be promoted. A commission of 30% will be retained from the sale price including purchase awards.

Organized by the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Utah, this national competitive juried exhibition will showcase contemporary works on paper by artists throughout the country. The exhibition will take place in the Gittins Gallery, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Eligibility & Media
All artists (18 years and older) residing in the USA are eligible to enter up to 3 original works that are either constructed from paper, or utilize a paper support. Works in Book Arts, Collage, Digital Prints, Drawing, Painting, Photography, Printmaking (including Monoprints) and 3D Paper Works are eligible. Works must have been completed in the last two years (Current students and employees of the University of Utah are ineligible to apply).

Maximum 2D framed size: 50 x 36 inches. Work must be framed.
Maximum 3D size: 24 x 24 x 24 inches

We will not consider offset reproductions, nor digital reproductions of artwork originally produced in another medium.

Juror: Judith Brodsky
Judith K. Brodsky is Distinguished Professor Emerita, Visual Arts, Rutgers University and Founding Director (1986) of the Rutgers Center for Innovative Print and Paper, renamed Brodsky Center for Innovative Editions in her honor. In 2018, the Brodsky Center joined the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Over 300 artists have created works at the center and these projects are in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Bibliothèque Nationale, Victoria & Albert, and the Stadtsmuseum, Berlin. She has held leadership positions in the art world, including as national president of ArtTable, the College Art Association, and the Women’s Caucus for Art (established in 1972).Brodsky’s work is in over 100 permanent collections including the Library of Congress, London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Fogg Museum, Harvard.
