Gormley Gallery is now accepting entries for the 29th National Drawing and Print Competitive Exhibition. This year’s juror is Kim Domanski, Public Art Coordinator for Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts. For a fee of $36 artists may submit up to 3 drawings or prints. A minimum of $1,500 will be available in purchase prize awards.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

Since 2001, the University Galleries at William Paterson University has organized an annual juried printmaking exhibition featuring traditional and digital print media and book art. One artist will be selected to have a future solo exhibition at the University Galleries.


ABOUT THE JUROR

Alexander Campos is the Executive Director & Curator of The Center for Book Arts in New York City, and has over 25 years of experience in the museum world. He has worked at the Whitney Museum of American Art, The New Museum of Contemporary Art, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, and the Bronx Museum of the Arts. At the Center for Book Arts, he has organized over two dozen contemporary arts exhibitions including Protest ≠ Profest: Global Concerns, The Un(FRAMED) Photograph, Racism: An American Family Value, Then & Now: 10 Years of Residency Programs at The Center for Books Arts, and Multiple Limited Unique: Selections from Permanent Collections of The Center for Book Arts, and, more recently Ornate/Activate for the South Asian Women's Collaborative Collective. He has also worked with 60 artists, including Buzz Spector, Chantal Zakari, Brian Taylor, Zahra Partovi, and Collette Fu, to produce solo project based installations and exhibitions, several of which merge photography and book arts. He holds an M.A. in Arts Administration/Museum Management from New York University’s Steinhardt School of Education and a B.A. in the History of Art and Romance Languages from University of Pennsylvania.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to all artists residing in the United States. Works must have been completed within the past two years and may not exceed 60 inches. Work previously shown at the William Paterson University Galleries will not be accepted.


ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS

All accepted work requires proper framing and should be ready to be hung (except for book art which will be displayed in vitrines on pedestals). The Juror reserves the right to reject any work found to be unacceptable upon arrival.


SALES

The University retains a 20% commission for all artwork sales.


LIABILITY

All work shown at the gallery will be insured for the duration of the exhibition. The gallery cannot insure works in transit.


SHIPPING REQUIREMENTS

The cost of shipping or hand-delivering works to and from the gallery is the responsibility of the artist.

Field Projects is pleased to announce our WINTER 2018 Open Call! Emerging and mid-career artists are invited to submit their work for consideration in our January-February 2018 exhibition: Show #47. All submissions will be considered for Show #47 and the accompanying online show. Simultaneously, Field Projects Panel will be considering the submissions for future group shows, solo shows, art fairs, off-site exhibitions and our studio visit program: about 85% of the artists we have shown at Field Project are discovered through the open call process.

Impressions 2018 is a national juried printmaking exhibition that celebrates the continued vitality, diversity and validity of printmaking as a fine art medium and relevant form of expression in the 21st century. This exhibition will take place in the Sarah Silberman Art Gallery, housed in the Paul Peck Art Building, Montgomery College – Rockville Campus, Rockville Maryland.

Paper In Particular is a annual, juried exhibition held by the Columbia College art galleries. The exhibition showcases the very best in art that incorporates paper as a primary element. Prints, drawings, photographs, digital images, paintings, sculpture, etc., are all eligible.

Juror: Tamryn McDermott, director of admissions at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. She is also currently the Traveling Exhibition Manager for Rooted, Revived, Reinvented: Basketry in America, an exhibition coordinated by the National Basketry Organization and the University of Missouri. McDermott received an MFA in Fibers from the University of Missouri and also has an MA in Art History and Arts Administration and BFA in Sculpture and Painting from Tyler School of Art. McDermott has exhibited around the United States, including the Torpedo Factory, Alexandria, VA; University of St. Louis Art Museum, St. Louis, MO; and the Crane Arts, Ice Box Project Space, Philadelphia, PA.

In this day and age of digital immediacy, the allure of handmade and tactile qualities of paper continue to draw interest. This exhibition seeks to bring the use of paper to the front and center of the artwork created.

Seeking works on (or of) paper that celebrate the medium of paper. Accepting paper art, artists’ books, letterpress, screenprint, printmaking, paintings, photograph prints, digital works on paper, installations, fashion, drawings and sculptures.

The competition and exhibition is open to emerging as well as established artists, 18 years of age or older, working in the continental US.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Artists may submit up to (3) pieces of work, 1-2 images per entry are allowed. Digital images are the only accepted form of submission. DELIVERY OF ACCEPTED ARTWORK:

Shipping/Delivery instructions will accompany email notification of acceptance. Shipping to the Anderson Gallery is the responsibility of the artist. Return shipping via FedEx or UPS for accepted artworks will be provided by the Anderson Gallery for most work with a pre-printed Return Label. Any larger submissions or packages that weigh more than 15 lbs. must be sent with a pre-paid return shipping label or shippers’ UPS or FEDEX account number to charge to artists’ account.

LIABILITY:
Works will be insured for the duration of the exhibition while the work is on-site to the extent of 100% of the artist’s stated retail value.

ABOUT THE ANDERSON:
The Anderson Gallery, a non-profit exhibition space on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines, was founded in 1996 to exhibit and support innovation in art and design. Part laboratory, part showcase, the Gallery’s main goal is to promote the growth and understanding of art through exhibitions, programs, and publications.

The Contemporary Print exhibition is a survey of the traditions and the innovations of contemporary printmaking happening today. While non-traditional or digital output is accepted as a print element, submissions must utilize traditional print media as their primary technique including: Lithography, Relief, Intaglio, Silkscreen, Photo Polymer Plate and Monotype. JUROR: This is the first time The Contemporary Print will be accepting international artists and we are excited to have our first juror from the United Kingdom. Dr. Paul Laidler is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Fine Print Research (CFPR) and Senior Lecturer in BA Illustration / MA Multidisciplinary Printmaking, University of the West England, Bristol, United Kingdom. The main focus of Paul’s academic activities stems from the close relationships that exist between technology, ideas and making in the graphic arts – particularly in the area of digitally-mediated print and its many offshoots. He contributes to critical discourse in print as a curator and arts writer, and is an associate editor for the Intellect Journal ‘Drawing Research Theory and Practice’. His research explores the impact of digital technology within the field of fine art printmaking, focusing on the advantages of using the traditional collaborative print studio model when generating and realising physical artefacts in the digital age. Over the years Paul has worked on print projects for artists such as Richard Hamilton, Lesley Dill, Joe Tilson, Gordon Cheung and Stanley Donwood.

EXHIBITION: As part of an ongoing commitment to promote drawing practices in the visual arts, the University of North Carolina Asheville (UNC Asheville) invites artists to submit entries to a Juried International Exhibition of contemporary drawing. UNC Asheville seeks to examine drawing as it is practiced and defined by today’s artists. Such an exhibition will demonstrate the continued significance of drawing through both conventional and innovative methods. Accepted work will be exhibited in UNC Asheville’s S. Tucker Cooke Gallery from January 19, 2018 through February 23, 2018. Esteemed juror, Stuart Shils, will be present and open the exhibition with a lecture about his practice on January 19, 2018; an opening reception for Drawing Discourse will follow immediately after the lecture.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists who are 18 years of age or older. All work must be original, completed in the past two years and cannot have been exhibited at The University of North Carolina Asheville before. MEDIA: In effort to support the breadth in international contemporary drawing, media is open to any traditional or experimental drawing media welcoming both two or three-dimensional works, video or installation. JUROR: Stuart Shils is the recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, an Academy Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and a Ballinglen Arts Foundation Fellowship in Ballycastle, Ireland where he spent thirteen summers working. Shils is a weekly critic at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, where he also teaches painting. His work has been presented in solo shows in New York, Philadelphia, Tel Aviv, Boston, Scottsdale, Stuttgart, Los Angeles, Richmond, San Francisco and Cork (Ireland). Critical review and commentary has appeared in The Brooklyn Rail, The New York Times, The New Yorker, The New York Sun, Ha’aretz, The Jerusalem Post, artcritical.com, The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe, The Boston Phoenix, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Irish Times, Art in America, The New Republic, The New Criterion, Art New England, American Artist and The Hudson Review. Stuart Shils has painted outside and looking through windows for 30 years, but now is in the studio with an eye tuned to mining his cumulative visual memory by way of cut and torn paper on LED light tables, collage, and monotype.

Artlink is pleased to present the 38th National Print Exhibition. This exhibition will feature contemporary printmakers working in all printmaking mediums, including intaglio, lithographs, relief, screenprints, monoprints, letterpress, artist books, digital prints and print installations. Only limited edition, fine art prints will be accepted. Prints must have been created within the last two years and not have been previously exhibited at Artlink. Reproduction prints will not be accepted. This exhibition will be juried by Liz Maugans.

Liz Maugans received her BFA in printmaking from Kent State University and her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. As an advocate for artists and the visual arts, Maugans has served as a consultant for many organizations and art business start-ups. She is the co-founder of the Collective Arts Network, a quarterly journal and arts network that works to promote Northeast Ohio artists and organizations to a greater audience through a quarterly journal and collective events. Maugans’ work is included in the Progressive Art Collection, BF Goodrich (Charlotte, N.C.) and The Riffe Center for Government and the Arts, (Columbus, OH) collections. She received an Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship in 2000 and a 2005 Artist-in-Communities Grant. She was honored, along with her Zygote co-founder, the Martha Joseph Prize for Distinguished Service from the Cleveland Arts Prize in 2012. In 2013, she was awarded a $20,000 Creative Workforce Fellowship from Community Partnership for Arts and Culture.

Southern Illinois Printworks, a student organization from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, invites entries for the 2nd Four Rivers Print Biennial, a national juried exhibition. We are thrilled to announce 2018’s juror, Lisa Bulawsky. Bulawsky is a Professor, Printmaking Area Coordinator, and the Director of Island Press in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis. This call is open to all forms of printmaking, including book arts, digital, experimental, and sculptural approaches. Southern Illinois is located in the heart of the largest watershed in the contiguous United States. Bordered by the Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, and Wabash rivers, it is also surrounded by regions rich with the traditions of fine art printmaking. Much like the convergence of waterways, the Four Rivers Print Biennial acts as the confluence of contemporary prints by artists from across the country. Eligibility & Fee:
Artists must reside within the United States. Works must measure no more than 60” in any direction, be completed within the last three years, and not previously shown in the biennial. Prints should be framed or otherwise ready for professional presentation. Framed works must use Plexiglas, NO GLASS. If your work requires a pedestal please indicate that on your submission list. A reception including an award presentation and gallery talk by Lisa Bulawsky will be held on a date to be announced later.
