Open Studio is a comprehensive artist-run centre for contemporary printmaking practice, providing multi-faceted services, programs and information to artists and the public alike. As a national organization, Open Studio offers affordable and equal access to printmaking facilities, programs and services for artists from across Canada and abroad. As an artist-run centre, it is our priority to support artists in the development of their professional endeavours. Our programs are accessible to the arts community and the general public.

We are looking for artists to show us what is current, important and relevant in printmaking today! In the 21st century prints may include unique and innovative combinations of media encompassing 2D, 3D, time-based work, installations and other new technologies. The exhibition seeks work that expresses contemporary issues with a well developed aesthetic, shows printmaking’s current innovations, and is also a reflection of its history.

Juror: Erin Sullivan Maynes
Erin Sullivan Maynes is Hoehn Curatorial Fellow for Prints at the University of San Diego, California. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Southern California in 2014. She is a specialist in the graphic arts, with a focus on prints and print culture of the 19th and 20th century, especially in Germany. Her dissertation, Speculating on Paper: Print Culture and the German Inflation, 1918-1924, considered the boom in graphic production that occurred during the most intense period of inflation in early Weimar-era Germany.


Juror’s Thoughts:
“Contemporary printmaking is less transparent in terms of process—you cannot just look at a print anymore to know how it is made. This challenges us to again redefine what print is at this moment and what it can be in the future. I would consider the connections between currency and print that resonate in a contemporary context as follows: the most literal is shared materials, paper and ink, and shared character as a multiple that nevertheless has limits put on its reproduction (an edition for the print, what a government is willing to print to keep prices stable in the case of money). Regarding material and edition, an alchemical transformation of material happens with both fine art and money—both take on a value far exceeding the value of their materials by virtue of a conceptual transformation rather than a material one. This conceptual link to value is necessary for both paper money and for the print to retain value and status, to be considered something more than pictures printed on paper.”

In keeping with our mission to promote the greater appreciation and understanding of the fine art print, IPCNY presents a selection of new prints during the year. New Prints 2016/Summer will be IPCNY's 54th New Prints Exhibition. The artist juror will be announced in the coming weeks.

Criteria for selection:
* Only original fine art (limited edition and unique) prints are eligible; reproductions of other artwork such as drawings or paintings are not acceptable. Videos and other media made from prints are acceptable.
* Selections should represent a broad diversity of sources, geographical and otherwise.
* Prints must have been completed within a year prior to the submission deadline.

Highpoint’s International Juried Print Exhibition

Highpoint is pleased to announce Stand Out Prints, our third juried print exhibition. The exhibition will fill Highpoint’s 1,000+ square feet of gallery space with select impressions of contemporary printmaking. The exhibition will run from September 16th through October 15th, 2016 with an opening reception taking place Friday, September 16th from 6:30-9pm.

Juror: Elizabeth Wyckoff is Curator of Prints, Drawings and Photographs at the Saint Louis Art Museum. She worked previously at the Davis Museum and Cultural Center, Wellesley College, the New York Public Library, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She received her PhD from Columbia University with a specialization in early 17th-century Dutch prints.

Eligibility: Artists must be 18 years of age or older and work must have been completed after January 1st, 2014. While non-traditional or digital output is accepted as a print element, submissions must utilize traditional print media (Lithography, Relief, Intaglio, Screenprinting, Monotype). Three-dimensional work may be submitted. Shipping arrangements, packaging and related costs are the responsibility of the artist. Prints will be displayed unframed behind glass cut to paper size (unless otherwise specified by the artist). Each artist may submit 1-3 images for consideration.

Prizes: $2,000 in cash prizes and $300 in gift certificates will be awarded by the juror.

Entry Fee: Non-refundable handling fee of $30.

Sales: Highpoint will retain 20% of proceeds from exhibition sales. Work does not need to be available for purchase in order to be eligible for this exhibition. All unsold work will be returned after the exhibition in its original packaging.

Agreement: Submission of artwork constitutes an agreement that allows Highpoint to photograph and reproduce accepted work for promotional purposes and allows work to remain on display at Highpoint for the full duration of the exhibition. Submission also grants Highpoint and the juror permission to make final presentation decisions.

Liability: Work will be insured the entire time it is on Highpoint’s premises. If damage occurs and the piece can be repaired, liability will be limited to the cost of repair. Damages incurred in transit to and from HP are the responsibility of the artist.

Shipping: All accepted work must be packaged in sturdy, reusable containers. Prints may be shipped rolled in mailing tubes or flat in well-padded containers. Highpoint will cover return shipping costs for artists located in the continental United States. Artists outside the U.S. will be assessed return shipping charges.

The East Coast Screenprint Biennial is an art exhibition that showcases a range of screenprint-based art applications, from framed, editioned prints, to installation, sculpture, video, ephemera, and posters. This juried exhibition will showcase artists from around the country who utilize adventurous, relevant, and passionate takes on the screenprinted medium. The Screenprint Biennial is the curatorial project of Nathan Meltz, printmaker and lecturer in the Art Department of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.

In the fall of 2016, the second East Coast Screenprint Biennial premiers at The Arts Center of the Capital Region and The Collar Works Gallery in Troy, NY. Select works will travel to the Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk, CT, in January 2017.

Each bi-monthly issue of Art in Print features a full-page reproduction and brief essay about the work of one artist, chosen by an outside juror. Jurors include artists, curators, printers, publishers and dealers from around the world.

Who can enter?
We can accept one submission per subscription per issue. The subscriber can be an artist, publisher, printshop, gallery or other organization.

The deadline is the middle of every odd-numbered month: 15 January, 15 March, 15 May, 15 July, 15 September, 15 November.

Do I have to be a subscriber to submit?
Yes. Art in Print is a not-for-profit organization and we depend on member support for all our programs. Subscriptions start at $38.

Juror: Dennis Michael Jon, Associate Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

Eligibility: Open to all artists 18 and older. Submissions must be original works on paper, created within the last two years, including but not limited to, digital, intaglio, lithographic, photographic, relief, serigraphic and stencil processes. Monotypes are also eligible but reproductions of pre-existing works are not.

Display: Each selected print will be framed by the Bradbury Art Museum during the exhibition. In order to ensure your print will fit into the frame, each print must arrive matted in or mounted on a horizontal or vertical, 16 x 20, 20 x 24, 24 x 24, or 24 x 32 inch white or off-white mat.

Works Accepted: Results of the selection process will be emailed to all entrants the second week of November, 2015. Each print selected for exhibition must be received by the Bradbury Art Museum no later than December 4, 2015.

Images and Catalog: Each artist may submit up to three prints, represented in a digital format (jpeg preferred) with a resolution of a minimum of 300 dpi at 4 x 5 inches or 1200 x 1500 pixels. The digital files must be print quality as all works selected for exhibition will be reproduced in a full-color catalog. By entering this exhibition each artist grants consent for the use of submitted images for reproduction in the catalog, for publicity and for educational purposes.

Purchase Awards: Will be made at the discretion of the juror. Each artist receiving an award will have their artist’s statement of 100 words or less printed in the exhibition catalog. Typically more than half of the show is purchased for the ASU Permanent Collection of Art and by the viewing audience.

Entry Fee: A $30 (nonrefundable) entry fee permits each artist to submit up to three prints.

Sales: The sale of prints in the exhibition will be promoted. A commission of 25% will be retained from the sale price. No commission will be retained for purchase awards.

Organized by the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Utah, this competitive juried regional exhibition will showcase contemporary works on paper by artists throughout the Intermountain West. The exhibition will take place in the Gittins Gallery on the campus of the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Eligibility & Media
All artists (18 years and older) residing in AZ, CA, CO, ID, MT, NM, NV, OR, WA, WY and UT are eligible to enter. Original works in Book Arts, Digital Prints, Drawing, Photography, Printmaking (including Monoprints) and 3D Paper Works are eligible. Works must be completed in the last two years (Students and employees of the University of Utah are ineligible to apply).

The Atlanta Print Biennial is an international juried exhibition of hand pulled prints and works on paper produced by renowned artists from around the world. The exhibit is organized by Atlanta Printmakers Studio and hosted by Kai Lin Art, a contemporary art gallery located in the vibrant Westside District of Midtown Atlanta, GA. Juried by Art Werger, internationally known master of aquatint, color intaglio and mezzotint. Werger has been exhibiting for over thirty years and has received over two hundred awards. He is known for his aerial imagery of cities and suburban scenes as well as for his prolific narrative mezzotints. Werger is Professor of Art in the Printmaking program at Ohio University, where he has served as the Foundations Chair and Chair of Printmaking.

The exhibit is open to all artists working in hand-pulled printmaking processes. Purchase awards and prizes will be given; details to come.
