Printing Matter is a two-week thematic residency with an intensive program for 8-10 artists, focusing on printmaking and artist book making. The Thematic Residency aims to create a platform for exchange, discussion, and collaboration amongst fellow artists from various disciplines, who share a professional interest in the topic, both on a practical and a conceptual level, and who wish to deepen their knowledge and expertise.

The program is developed and guided by the Danish artist and graphic designer Åse Eg Jørgensen. It includes group workshops, independent research and practice and an informal final presentation in Skaftfell’s project space. Working facilities and printmaking equipment will be made available through a collaboration with the Technical Museum of East Iceland in Seyðisfjörður.

Skaftfell is founded in memory of the artist Dieter Roth (1930-1998) who lived and worked in Seyðisfjörður for periods of time during the last decade of his life. In Skaftfell you can find many of his book works and prints on display.

Visiting Artist Residencies | Deadline: September 15

Artists working in various printmaking techniques, photo-processes, book arts and digital media including video production can apply to become an Artist-in-Residence at Kala Art Institute. Residency applications are accepted online three times per year. Artists who apply for residency should be familiar with at least one of the media offered at Kala. Considerations for acceptance are conceptual creativity and technical knowledge. Kala encourages use of both traditional and new technologies, and their admixture.

A four-week opportunity that allows artists to work in a beautiful printmaking studio in Diemelstadt-Rhoden, Germany. Two artists will be chosen to work at Atelierhaus Beisinghoff, less than an hour away from Kassel, Germany.

Accommodation is free of charge and provides artists with an apartment, shared bath, library, kitchen, living room, and garden. The resident pays for travel costs, food, and materials. Artists prepare lunch together.

Atelierhaus Beisinghoff offers access to: (1) Letterpress studio with Korrex flatbed press, Garamond, Helvetica, Futura, Wallau, and some Bodoni Antiqua typefaces; (2) Intaglio studio with Plankenhorn etching press for paper up to 132 x 180 cm (52 x 70 in) and Kniehebel toggle press 32 x 42 cm, for smaller etchings and woodcuts.

This is a collaborative, six-month residency program open to U.S. and international artists of all artistic backgrounds and career levels to create new complete body of work through exploration of non-toxic contemporary printmaking. The Residency will include an education in printmaking, critiques and an exhibition of the works produced during the residency. The opportunity to sell your prints and the Affordable Art Fair, New York, as part of our booth at this popular exhibition venue.

Residency dates are January - June 2017
Applications are evaluated by a rotating committee of artists, curators and art professionals based on the quality of submitted artwork and are awarded to two artists annually. Artists based in the New York City area and without access to a studio space are encouraged to apply.

The Residency Program includes:

- Access to a shared etching press on a 2,000 square foot studio & gallery space
- Consultations with master printers
- Flat file storage space during term of residency
- Two (2) free weekend classes in printmaking

Although the studio residency award does not include housing, we can assist international and out of the metropolitan area applicants in securing affordable housing for the residency period. Frans Masereel Centre (1972) is a place where national and international artists, researchers and graphic designers reside, meet and experiment. During the general residency program, the artist or graphic designer realizes a print project that matches his or her personal oeuvre. The residency lasts 4 to 6 weeks.

Frans Masereel Centre offers residencies and a working space to graphic designers, artists and critics who want to work with intaglio, relief printing, screen print or lithography, or who want to investigate the relationship of graphics with other visual arts. The focus is on creation and experimentation in the workshop. Frans Masereel Centre anno 2016 is a graphical laboratory in which the possibilities of graphical applications are being researched, widened and reformulated. It is a platform for the public, the artist and his work.

The center is located in the rural 'Anwerpse Kempen’. The architect, Lou Jansen, designed the main studio as an open and round structure, where one can work peacefully. The work studio is open from 8 am to 8 pm. Ivan Durt and Tom Dries, our technical staff member, give the necessary support and technical advice. As a resident you have your own studio with kitchen, dining and living room and two bedrooms at your disposal. We also offer one bike for each house. You’re free to bring your assistant.

No prior knowledge of the graphic medium is required, but residents are expected to work on their own. Two staff members are available for technical advice or help.

Artist & Writer Residencies hosted by MASS MoCA’s Assets for Artists Program

MASS MoCA invites artists and writers to apply for residencies from 1 week to 8 weeks in length.

••Free access to Makers’ Mill (a printmaking and fiber arts makerspace on Main Street in North Adams, offering shared use of relief press, screen-printing, and book arts equipment, as well as floor looms, sewing machines, small tools, and work tables)••

Residents (10 per session) will receive:

• A private studio in attractive space on MASS MoCA’s re-purposed mill campus, with generous natural light, 24-hour studio access, plywood floors, a work table and chair in each studio, and shared slop sinks and bathrooms.
• Housing across the street from the museum, in newly renovated apartments (private bedroom/Queen bed + shared kitchen and bath). These are lovely apartments, but note that it’s communal living (4 people to an apartment) in an active downtown location — sensitive sleepers be advised.
• One communal meal per day, in the company of other artists-in-residence.
• MASS MoCA member benefits for the duration of the residency, including free access to the museum’s galleries and discounts on performing arts events and museum store purchases.
• Optional one-on-one artist-focused financial and business counseling through MASS MoCA’s Assets for Artists program (www.assetsforartists.org) that helps artists and writers in all disciplines strengthen the business side of their artistic practice.
• Eligibility: We welcome applications from artists in all career stages, income levels, and disciplines (painters, writers, fiber artists, printmakers, performers, designers, photographers, filmmakers, etc.) whose practice allows them to work quietly (no power tools in the private studios, and no music out loud – headphones only). Groups/collectives may apply to work on joint projects. The studios have light-duty ventilation, so an art practice generating strong fumes cannot be accommodated.

Full Cost: $690/week

Financial Aid: All applicants will be considered for subsidies based on artistic merit, readiness to benefit from the residency, and financial need.

CCP is now offering two distinct competitive residency opportunities:

1. A Professional Development AIR. Artists who teach at colleges, universities and high schools throughout the United States may apply for one-or two-week residencies based on professional funding guidelines at your institution. This opportunity is meant to further individual artistic objectives in printmaking. CCP will match 50 percent of costs to a maximum of $2,500 associated with the AIR. Travel, food and materials are not covered expenses. The deadline for this application is June 30, 2016 for residencies in 2017. There is an application fee of $35. The Grace Ross Shanley Education Fund and other secured funds will provide underwriting for the matching funding.

2. Self-funded Residencies. Experienced printmakers may apply for residencies of one or two weeks by submitting an application and the $35 application fee. Applications are due on June 30, 2016 for residencies in 2017. Residencies will be awarded as space permits, given the applicants preferred schedule.

One of the goals of the CCP’s AIR program, whether Professional Development or Self-funded, is to engage a community of artists in an exchange of ideas and techniques. Artists participating in any of CCP’s residencies will have the opportunity to conduct workshops for CCP artists/members and other artists in the Norwalk and greater New York metropolitan community. Artist talks will be required and will be heavily promoted in social media to ensure a broad audience. An archival print will be due to CCP for editions printed during the residency. CCP will professionally cancel the plate(s) and the artist will retain the plate(s).

The Studio Immersion Project (SIP) at The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts/ Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop is an intensive 3 month studio fellowship designed to immerse artists in the world of printmaking. SIP Fellows will acquire new techniques and build upon existing skills. Artists, from all media, interested in making printmaking a regular part of their creative practice are invited to apply. All applications are due by 13 March.

Selection Process
Selection is based on artistic merit determined by an independent three person interdisciplinary panel in a blind jury. Jurors will be made public following the announcement of selected participants.

SIP Eligibility
A SIP fellowship is ideal for artists with a developed studio practice and career experience. Prior printmaking experience is not required. Artists working in other media are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants cannot have an affiliation with any institution as a full or part time student at the time of application. Applicants cannot have received any other fellowship from EFA RBPMW in the past 2 years.

Eligibility is limited to artists living and working in New York State. Artists must be able to spend a minimum of 20 hours working in the studio each week for the three month SIP period. Artists must be able attend all sessions of SIP Orientation.
