Israel Museum, Jerusalem acquisition of my triptych: “Rumor”
Jerusalem,
Israel
I am pleased to share the The Israel Museum, Jerusalem acquisition of my triptych : Rumor, 2017, 300 x 168 cm, 120 x 67in, to it's permanent collection.
Rumor, is a significant work in my thematic and formalistic journey. It is first and foremost the expression of my continued preoccupation with the local and broader political and moral complexities, encompassing not just ethnic conflicts but the very fundaments of land, water and time. The millennia of territorial struggles; ever-present in the most rudimentary daily realities. Rumor was inspired [Or rather triggered] by a local dispute between Palestinians and Jewish settlers, over access to natural springs in the West Bank; while water rights around the world, are increasingly being weaponized as climate change destabilizes weather patterns.

International Seminar – Goya: grotesque / collecting (Madrid/online 16-17 Nov 2023)
Paula Fayos-Perez
Biblioteca Histórica Marqués de Valdecilla (Universidad Complutense de Madrid)
Madrid,
Spain
11/16/2023-11/17/2023,
10am-6pm
We are announcing the international seminar 'Goya: grotesco / coleccionismo', which will take place on 16-17 November 2023 in Madrid, at the Biblioteca Histórica Marqués de Valdecilla (Universidad Complutense de Madrid). The event will also be recorded and live-streamed (UCM Directo). To secure a ticket, you can register on Eventbrite: https://seminariointernacionalgoya2023.eventbrite.es
Francisco de Goya (1746-1828) is recognised for the enormous richness and variety of his work, both in the subjects and the means he used. He worked for the Court —portrait and decorative programs— for the Church —religious painting—, as well as for private clients, without forgetting the private sphere, a favourable environment not only for cabinet paintings and engravings but also for grotesque and fantastic subjects, social criticism, humour and human tragedies. This international seminar focuses on the study of Goya's work from two themes: the grotesque and collecting, and will include the participation of leading researchers in both fields of study.
In the first part of the seminar, the grotesque-fantastic will be addressed, an issue present in Goya and inscribed in the context of the origins of Romanticism. The use of satire and caricature will be examined as an end in itself and as experimentation with visual forms, and also as a means to point out political or religious issues while avoiding censorship. The second part is dedicated to the collecting of Goya's work, particularly in France, Spain, Great Britain and the United States. The study of his paintings, drawings and engravings arose first and mainly among French critics, which stimulated the collecting of Goya’s works and, therefore, increased the demand and caused the proliferation of imitations on the market.
The purpose of this seminar is to contribute, from the proposed double approach, to the critical study of Goya's work with the presentation of recent and original research. In this way, it inserts into the debates about the artist and in the updating of his state of the question.

Power to the People: Mexican Art from the Moffett Collection
Cori Sherman North, Bill North, Reilly Shwab.
Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery,
Lindsborg,
KS, United States.
06/18/2023 -
08/06/2023.
Exhibiting artist(s): Jean Charlot, José Clemente Orozco, Miguel Covarrubias, Francisco Dosamantes, José Guadalupe Posada, Xavier Guerrero, Carlos Orozco Romero, Jesús Ortiz Tajonar, Alfredo Ramos Martínez, Diego Rivera, David Siqueiros, Rufino Tamayo, Alfredo Zalce, and artists of the Taller de Gráfica Popular.
Drawing on work from James and Virginia Moffett of Kansas City, Missouri, "Power to the People: Mexican Prints from the Moffett Collection" explores the political and social conditions of early-20th-century Mexico and the dynamic, groundbreaking art that emerged from the Mexican Revolution (1910–1920) and greatly influenced the trajectory of modern art around the globe.
This period of war and dramatic civic upheaval witnessed a flowering of artistic production, particularly in printmaking and the graphic arts. Mexico’s long printmaking tradition dates to the late 1500s and was often geared to a popular audience. Artists such as José Guadalupe Posada, Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros, and Jean Charlot—icons of Mexican modernism—highlighted popular traditions and everyday imagery to create new messages of social justice meant to appeal directly to the working classes in the Mexican provinces.
The "Power to the People" traveling exhibition is curated by Cori Sherman North of the Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery, Bill North of the Clara Hatton Center, and Reilly Shwab when at the Wichita Art Museum. The exhibition consists of more than seventy works on paper, paintings, portfolios, and wood block matrices. Ten Posada broadsheets originally from the collection of Jean Charlot were added to this venue's display.

Germany.

Notebooks, bullet journals and diaries: as containers of ephemera, they accompany our lives. They are filled bit by bit with experiences, remarkable things and memos and take on an important function as a structuring medium in the lives of many people. Often, individual works of art are created in the process, especially when artists keep diaries. The Klingspor Museum has impressive examples in its collection and also presents a variety of artistic expressions in this field, which were submitted as part of an open call for entries.
