Senior Curator, Prints & Drawings – NGA Australia

The National Gallery holds one of the most significant collections of prints and drawings in Australia. The curatorial team operates within a vibrant and rewarding environment stewarding and developing the Gallery’s relationship with art and artists. The primary focus of the Senior Curator, Prints and Drawings is to lead management of specific parts of the collection on a day-to-day basis, ensuring the continuing development, display, research, interpretation, and promotion of the collection.

Reporting to the Head Curator, International Art, the Senior Curator, Prints and Drawings develops and manages a team of curatorial staff to achieve the overall objectives of the team. In consultation with the Head Curator, the Senior Curator, Prints and Drawings is responsible for developing and presenting exhibitions and projects that forge new perspectives and elevate new research to position the Gallery as a place of scholarship and curatorial excellence.

The Senior Curator, Prints and Drawings leads a curatorial team, ensuring that acquisitions strategies, exhibition plans, creative interpretation, and collection management practices embed and pay respect to Indigenous cultures; elevate the voice of the artist and/or community; align with the vision of the Gallery; are inspiring, courageous, financially sustainable and comply with sound governance practices. The Senior Curator, Prints and Drawings produces research and publications that enhance the reputation of the Gallery and its collection. Further, the Senior Curator works collaboratively with peers and colleagues through national and international networks to foster and grow the value of the collection ensuring the greatest possible reach and impact. Finally, the Senior Curator, Prints and Drawings is responsible for management and governance of the team, including supporting the enabling functions in the area (finance, HR, legal etc) to build team culture and capability.
