Provenance Researchers Graphic Arts Collections, Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz

Provenance research on drawings, prints and books in the Graphic Arts Collection of the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz acquired between 1933 - 1945:
• Screening of acquisitions (drawings, prints and books) made between 1933 and 1945 in the Graphic Arts Collection of the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz
• Review of relevant information from the inventory and index cards of related acquisition documents and correspondence, sale and auction catalogs and other sources in the museum; Research and evaluation of the relevant archival material in the museum and city archives
• Examination of the front and back of the original art work, check with the already documented information, and documentation of the findings, especially in the database MuseumPlus
• further systematic provenance research on the individual art works in the aforementioned collection with the aim of clarifying the final ownership and possession of the works; Review and evaluation of relevant national and international archives, auction catalogs, technical literature, databases, etc., especially in view of the art, where a Nazi-related withdrawal could be an issue
• complete documentation of the research processes and results with evidence entered into the Museum database MuseumPlus
• classification of objects by the system of the German Center Kulturgutverluste
• Creation of a summary project report on the research results according to the specifications of the German Center Kulturgutverluste, Magdeburg
• design and implementation of events in the context of public relations on this issue, such as guides or prepare an exhibition together with a publication based on the research results

WHAT TO BRING:
• University degree, Masters/doctoral level major in art history desired
• demonstrable practical experience in archival work and in the field of provenance research on Nazi-confiscated art
• In-depth knowledge of European art history in particular, the art and history of the 19th and 20th centuries
• Excellent computer literacy, especially in view of the Museum Software Museum Plus or a comparable museum database
• sound knowledge and experience in the museum collection management
• Very good knowledge of English (spoken and written), knowledge of a second foreign language desirable
• reliability, diligence, independent work, dedication
• excellent communication and coordination skills
