Print Club of Rochester BIPOC Printmaker Residency
The Print Club of Rochester seeks to promote diversity, equity and inclusion within our printmaking community and organization. We will be awarding a 4-month long residency to one BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) artist within the Western NY/Finger Lakes area. The residency will take place at Flower City Arts Center, Rochester, NY. Dates of the residency are planned for 2021-22 (actual dates may vary due to the pandemic). The residency is open to BIPOC printmakers 18 years of age and older. Requirements include 2 completed college printmaking courses and/or equivalent printmaking workshop and studio experience. Applicants must be capable of working safely, responsibly and independently in the Flower City facility.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
• Only BIPOC applicants currently living in the regional area of Western NY and the Finger Lakes may apply.
• Applicants must have completed a minimum of 2 courses or more of college printmaking, or the equivalent training in the form of printmaking workshops and studio experience.
• Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
• Applicants must provide 5-10 jpegs of their artwork (prints), a list/description of works submitted, a one page Bio or Résumé, and a short statement of how the residency will serve their artistic needs and help to meet their goals.
RESIDENCY DETAILS
• The Print Club of Rochester Board of Directors will select one BIPOC printmaker to receive a 4-month residency at Flower City Arts Center, Rochester, NY.
• Residency is 4 consecutive months within the 2021-22 calendar years (with flexibility due to the pandemic).
• Residency includes a 1-year membership to Flower City Arts Center.
• Residency includes 24/7 access to the Printmaking Studio. Access to the following studios may be permitted upon demonstration of ability: Community Darkroom, Silver Den, Digital Art Studio, Lighting Studio, Letterpress Studio, Papermaking Studio, Bookbinding Studio, and Screen Printing Studio. Additional fees and supplies may be required and are the responsibility of the resident.
• Classes at Flower City are FREE to resident (Materials fee may apply and are responsibility of resident).
• Some studio supplies included, such as: solvents, rollers, brayers, tarlatan, gloves, rags, newsprint and ferric acid.
• Resident will be responsible for consumables such as printing paper, ink and personal tools.
• Resident will receive a $50 Dick Blick gift card for studio supplies/consumables.
• Orientation to studios and Flower City Arts operational guidelines will be provided. All guidelines must be followed.
• Resident must provide documentation (jpegs) of work produced during residency and share via social media. This documentation must also be submitted bi-weekly to The Print Club of Rochester for posting.
• Resident will be awarded a 1-year basic membership ($35) to The Print Club of Rochester upon completion of all residency requirements. Resident may upgrade to Full membership ($85) with an additional $50 fee.
• Resident will be invited to exhibit completed works/prints in The Print Club of Rochester Annual Members Exhibition.
• Housing accommodations are the responsibility of the artist.
