Picasso Lever de rideau, l’arène, l’atelier, l’alcôve

A presentation of the Picasso prints from the Fondation Werner Coninx and the Fondation Jean et Suzanne Planque

Beginning with the Saltimbanques series of 1905 and through to the late erotica of the Suite des 347 etchings created between March and October 1968, Picasso’s prints reveal a constant preoccupation with the theme of spectacle. From the circus tent to the arena of the bullring and from the artist’s studio to the bedroom, a company of players made up of circus performers, bullfighters, painters and sculptors with their models, and lovers amorously entwined take their turn upon the stage. This “grand parade”, with its cast of thousands, is brought magnificently to life by an exhibition in the cantonal prints collection of the Musée Jenisch that opens on 21 June 2018. It has been made possible by the recent deposits of the Fondation Werner Coninx and the Fondation Jean et Suzanne Planque.
