Maher Curatorial Fellow

This is a term position. Term duration: 1 year, with possibility of renewal

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Maher Curatorial Fellow will primarily focus on developing and managing the forthcoming exhibition From the Philosophy Chamber: Harvard’s Lost Collection. This exhibition will bring together works from the extensive, but little-known collection of portraits, prints, natural history specimens, scientific instruments and ethnographic materials that Harvard College amassed between 1766 and 1820. Under the supervision of the Curator of American Art, the Fellow will contribute to all aspects of exhibition planning and preparation, including the execution of primary and secondary research, selection and coordination of loans, development of exhibition design and program, cultivation of funding opportunities, and general project management.

The Curatorial Fellow assists with a broad range of other curatorial activities, including preparation of temporary displays of American art, cataloguing of the permanent collection in the Art Museums’ database, and donor cultivation.

Foregrounding the museum’s teaching and research mission, the Curatorial Fellow helps provide content expertise for the Art Museums’ Art Study Center by supporting classes and individual appointments six hours a week, and contributes to a rich offering of public and academic interpretive programs across various platforms.

The Fellow may supervise students and temporary employees.
