Getty Paper Project Curatorial Fellowship, Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is seeking eligible candidates for The Getty Paper Project Curatorial Fellowship for September 2019-December 2020.
The Getty Paper Project Curatorial Fellowship is a 16-month position funded by the Getty Foundation and awarded by The Metropolitan Museum of Art. This Fellowship seeks to provide hands-on curatorial experience and training for students and young professionals interested in museum careers and advancing curatorial practice in the field of prints and drawings.
The Curatorial Fellow will participate in a range of curatorial activities in the Department of Drawings and Prints, over the sixteen month period. The position will provide broad-based curatorial training in areas such as cataloging, collections management, research, exhibitions, and acquisitions. Focused on the Northern drawings and prints collection, the Curatorial Fellow will be involved in every aspect of the Department’s activities, including publications and digital projects. The fellowship will also provide a rich context for the Curatorial Fellow to interact with curators, conservators, and scientists, as well as the public and researchers who come to view the collection. The Curatorial Fellow will also have the opportunity to pursue their own research projects related to the collection, leading to a focused installation in the Met’s Robert Wood Johnson, Jr. Gallery and perhaps related public programs.
Eligible candidates are those in a field related to drawings and prints who have either completed their PhDs in the last five years or who are ABD. The ideal candidate will have a reading knowledge of German and/or Dutch and a demonstrable interest in the field of Northern Renaissance and Baroque drawings and prints along with some experience of working in a museum’s graphics collection. Some previous experience of cataloging and researching works on paper is also highly desirable.
The Curatorial Fellowship stipend for the 16 month period will be $69,328 with an additional stipend of $6,000 for research related travel. The 16-month position will ideally take place from September 3, 2019- December 31, 2020.
