Exhibition Manager, Prints and Drawings
Manages departmental exhibitions and gallery rotations; assists Director of Curatorial Administration for Prints and Drawings with acquisitions, outgoing loans, collection research and cataloging processes, and CITI to web project.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Exhibitions
Manages departmental exhibitions and gallery rotations: maintains production schedule for Allerton rotations; creates exhibition CITI record and workgroup; manages checklists in CITI exhibition manager and relevant workgroups; enters transactions for all incoming loans and records approval statuses; drafts and tracks all loan agreements; works with Imaging to ensure all works for exhibit are photographed; works with Curators to make sure all works for exhibit are fully cataloged and web-published; on occasion, provides curatorial assistance to departmental exhibitions and Allerton rotations, including selecting objects and writing wall labels; manages label production with Publishing and Graphic Design; adds final label text to CITI object records for publication on museum website; serves as primary liaison with Museum Registration; and facilitates communication between Curators, Conservation, other curatorial departments as needed, and Museum Registration.
2. Acquisitions
Assists Director of Curatorial Administration for Prints and Drawings with the acquisition process: creates CITI object/transaction records, facilitates communication between Curators, Conservation, and Museum Registration; builds object files, carries out object research, and writes justifications as needed.
3. Out-Going Loans
Assists Director of Curatorial Administration for Prints and Drawings with out-going loans process: records and tracks out-going loan requests in CITI; edits lists of pending, approved and declined loans; attends Director’s out-going loans meetings; attends Registrar’s out-going loans meetings; researches provenance on requested loans; and serves as courier as needed.
4. Research
In consultation with curatorial staff and Director of Curatorial Administration for Prints and Drawings, researches and catalogs the collection and maintains CITI object records and object files; provides catalogue/exhibition research; carries out provenance, donor documentation, and other special research projects; verifies information regarding the collection for Publications, Graphics, Imaging, the Museum Shop, and other curatorial departments; and researches and responds to outside queries about the permanent collection as needed.
5. CITI to Web
Assists Director of Curatorial Administration for Prints and Drawings with departmental CITI to web project: with Curators, corrects and updates records for the entire collection of prints, drawings, and illustrated books according to new research and scholarship; edits records for departmental/web style; works with Curators to add research and text to object records for web publishing; adds publish category tags and works with Information Services to enable records for web; works with Imaging to make sure every object record has an associated image; attends all CITI meetings and advocates accordingly for department; and assists with CITI and other electronic training to department staff, interns and volunteers as needed.
6. Study Room and Public Communication
Serves as back up to Study Room Monitor/Receptionist/Collection Assistant and Curators in the study room.
7. Collection Storage and Maintenance
Assists with collection maintenance, including maintaining order, archival practices in the storage vaults, and object tracking.
QUALIFICATIONS
- MA in Art History preferred.
- Experience handling prints and drawings, knowledge of printmaking and drawing techniques, and project management.
- The successful candidate should be highly detailed oriented and organized, have the ability to multi-task, and have excellent interpersonal communication skills.
