Exhibition & Curatorial Coordinator/Manager

The Exhibitions & Curatorial Coordinator / Manager will work closely with the Director and all staff to manage and implement IPCNY’s exhibitions program. Working with a dynamic small staff in an open office environment adjacent to an exhibition space, the applicant must be a self-starter and a team player. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented candidate with the appropriate background, skills, and ambition to be closely involved in the making of exhibitions, programming, and publications at IPCNY in a creative and administrative capacity. The position includes collaborating with artists and curators, managing lender relationships and artwork loans, establishing schedules/deadlines, and designing exhibition installations and graphics. Experience with graphic design strongly preferred; related responsibility includes designing exhibition printed materials and publications. Specific job functions are:

Guest-curated exhibitions (2 annually):
- Organizes all aspects of these exhibitions with external curators and Director, from proposal phase through installation design. Establishes exhibition schedule/deadlines and special requirements; secures loans and coordinates shipping, insurance, conservation, framing, and condition reporting; oversees gallery preparation, installation, and deinstallation.
- Uses design programs (AutoCAD, InDesign) to create scale exhibition mockups for use with curators and freelance preparator staff.
- Coordinates exhibition budget and prepares/edits content for printed materials (i.e. wall labels, checklist, announcement postcard, brochure, catalogue) with IPCNY staff.

New Prints, open-call juried print exhibitions (2 annually)
- Collaborates with Director and staff on formation of jury and selection of artist juror.
- Manages online artwork submissions process and runs jury meetings.
- Works directly with artists, etc. to coordinate loans, shipping, insurance, and framing; oversees gallery preparation, installation, and deinstallation; prepares/edits wall labels, checklist, brochure content, and artist’s statements/biographies.
- Uses design programs (AutoCAD, InDesign) to create scale exhibition mockups for use with juror(s) and freelance preparator staff.
- Sets schedule/deadlines and collaborates with jury and Director on installation design.

Other duties:
- Coordinates Exhibition Committee meetings with Committee Chair and Director, and presents exhibition reports at Board Meetings.
- Manages storage and artwork safety, and liaises with building staff.
- Manages freelance preparators and supervises interns.
- Manages installations for annual spring fundraiser, IPCNY’s booth at art fairs, and pop-up events.

Job requirements: Bachelor’s degree in exhibition/industrial/graphic design, curatorial studies, arts administration, museum studies, fine arts, or related field. Demonstrated project management with at least 2-3 years of professional experience in a museum, gallery, or exhibition space. Demonstrated knowledge of the print field preferred; prior experience with handling works on paper a plus. Must be comfortable with a hands-on, fast-paced exhibition environment, and able to work on multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and use good judgement. A team-orientated attitude with flexibility is essential. Excellent people skills, communications skills, and strong organizational and time-management skills required. Collaborative style with the ability to interact effectively and professionally with a diverse group of artists and professionals is essential. Adobe Suite knowledge mandatory (with emphasis on InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop) and AutoCAD knowledge highly preferred. Basic familiarity with installation tools/hardware/furniture, proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite, and familiarity with creative software needed. Attendance at IPCNY events, some in the evenings and on weekends, required.
