The Museum seeks a full-time Conservation Technician for Works of Art on Paper to join its active conservation department. The Conservation Technician plays a critical role in the successful functioning of the CMA’s conservation department that includes labs and preparatory areas for objects, textiles, Western Paintings, East Asian paintings, works on paper, and frames. Under the supervision of the museum’s paper conservator, the technician will assist in the care of the Museum’s paper collections including prints, drawings, photographs, manuscript leaves, and books.

Responsibilities:
Preparing works of art on paper for display, transit, and storage.
Hinging and mounting works of art on paper using museum quality materials and methods.
Constructing housing for related materials such as books and palm leaves.
Assisting with incoming examinations and documentation reports.
Support and advising on art handling to ensure that the paper collections receive that best care for installations and art movement.
Maintaining storage and working spaces, especially the conservation paper preparatory space.

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree and at least three years of experience working with a fine art collection as conservation paper technician/paper preparator.
Proven experience in preparing works of art on paper to the highest museum standards.
Demonstrated ability to handle works of art according to conservation handling guidelines and basic knowledge of the materials and techniques of works of art on paper, including manuscripts and non-western art.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, members of outside organizations, employees of organization, or visiting scholars and conservators.
Ability to define problems, collect and enter data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and data management systems.
Demonstrated effective communication and successful teamwork
The technician must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made.
Beyond the handling of artwork, manual dexterity is frequently required as duties call for the operation of tools and equipment.

Salary: $48,000
