CFP: Lusophone/Hispanophone Caucus of the African Literature Association (15-18 May 2019, Columbus OH)

Subsequent to the ALA general call for papers for the 45th Annual Conference to be held in Columbus Ohio, May 15-May 18, 2019, the LusoHispanophone Caucus (LHCALA) extends an invitation to its members and friends to propose papers, panels, and roundtables on the theme for this year, The Institutions of African Literature: Future, Present, Past.

With this theme the conference seeks to examine how African literatures have been produced, the material and institutional conditions that have impacted them, and a look ahead to how these cultural productions might evolve in the coming decades.

Within the field of LusoHispanophone studies, the general theme of the conference provides us with a rich area wherein to examine the relationship between our regional literatures and cultures and the institutions of African literatures. While noting similarities with other European-language-based African literatures in terms of their originating conditions and trajectories, it is also obvious the LusoHispanophone field has neither enjoyed the same status accorded the previous literatures nor has been grounded within the overall development paradigm of African literatures, especially in light of the transatlantic dimensions of LusoHispanophone cultures. We invite papers on these and other related themes while being open to many other possibilities affecting production, promotion, and reception of LusoHispanophone cultural productions.
