Call for Applications: Postdoctoral Fellow at Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden
The Paper Project. Prints and Drawings Curatorship in the 21st Century,
Dresden,
Germany
Applications due: 02/11/2022
The Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (SKD) [Dresden State Art Collections] is seeking to fill the position of a Postdoctoral fellow in the Kupferstich-Kabinett (Museum of Prints, Drawings and Photographs). Start at the earliest possible date (June 1, 2022 at the latest), for a 12-month period.
The Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (SKD) [Dresden State Art Collections] are an internationally renowned museum complex comprising a total of 15 museums. With four further institutions, they present a unique diversity of topics that is unrivalled worldwide. At a variety of locations, some of the museums showcase their treasures in painstakingly restored, world-famous historic buildings. The collections house, research and share the stories of several million items. Besides the permanent and special exhibitions in Dresden, Leipzig and Herrnhut and other temporary exhibition venues in Saxony, the SKD also cooperate with other museums around the world. The SKD employs a team of roughly 450, many of whom are project-specific or externally funded personnel.
We are looking for a colleague with proven expert knowledge in Old Master drawings and particularly in Italian art to collaborate on the collection catalogue of the 16th-century Italian drawings in the Dresden Kupferstich-Kabinett. Since 2018, this project has been supported by a major grant from the Getty Foundation, as part of "The Paper Project. Prints and Drawings Curatorship in the 21st Century". The initiative’s primary focus is on training and professional development for early- to mid-career curators of prints and drawings.
The collection of Italian Renaissance drawings in the Dresden Kupferstich-Kabinett includes more than 600 individual sheets, as well as several albums. Among these works are celebrated drawings as well as a large group of unpublished works. The current research project aims at cataloguing this important part of our holdings. With respect to methodology, and with the wealth and diversity of the material in mind, particular attention is being paid to fostering a dialogue with international colleagues.

Please send your application (cover letter, CV, work references, proof of qualification, earliest start date) electronically in one PDF file (max. 4 MB) by February 11, 2022 to: jobs@skd.museum.
