2019 Awagami International Miniature Print Exhibition (AIMPE)

The Awagami International Miniature Print Exhibition (AIMPE) 2013 was held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Awagami’s Hall of Awa Japanese Handmade Paper. This year, we mark the 30th anniversary of Awagami's 'Hall of Awa Japanese Paper Museum' by hosting AIMPE 2019.

The purpose of this exhibition is to introduce ‘washi’; Japan's traditional handmade paper (and cultural treasure) to international printmakers. In so doing, we are pleased to provide an opportunity for artists to exhibit their prints and to promote expressionistic fine art printmaking. Both Japanese and International artists are all invited to submit their miniprints created on Japanese washi paper --- washi has recently been designated as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage craft. Digital (Inkjet/Giclee) prints on washi will also be accepted.

Award-winning works will be displayed within Awagami’s Hall of Awa Japanese Handmade Paper Museum. All other prints will be displayed in Awagami’s spacious post-industrial gallery “Inbe Art Space”. Prizewinners from prior years will be displayed at satellite venues in Japan. Concurrently, an exhibition of commissioned works by printmakers hailing from both Japan and the US entitled “Awagami and Print Expression” will be held at Inbe Art Space. During the AIMPE exhibition, printmaking specialists and selected artists will conduct workshops and print-related symposiums at the exhibition sites.

Entries will be accepted from May 1 to July 31, 2019.
The first 500 artists registered by May 31 will receive a free sample pack of Awagami washi papers suitable for printmaking
