The Department of Art & Art History is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure-track position in Pictorial Art, with an ability to address interdisciplinary practices, ranging from oil painting to emerging or unconventional media, including video and digital painting. The candidate should be able to apply such media to a range of perceptual and conceptual issues and should be thoroughly grounded in theories of color and form. Coursework in this area considers historical approaches to contemporary issues through the exploration of manual, mechanical, and electronic image making. The department would ideally like to hire an artist with a national reputation and commitment to inclusive education to attract students to our Pictorial Program. The successful candidate will be capable of coordinating the Pictorial Program as a whole; supervising the development of equipment and facilities in Pictorial Art; teaching undergraduate and graduate students; and developing new curriculum, both within the Pictorial area and across disciplines. The candidate must be able to teach all levels of painting, drawing, undergraduate theory and practice, as well as BFA/MFA seminar classes. The candidate must also be sensitive to the needs of a diverse student body and demonstrate a commitment to inclusive methods of teaching. The ability to teach printmaking and/or digital video would also be an asset. The successful candidate must have the ability and interest to work across disciplines, programs and departments more generally. She or he would need to have the ability to assess and address future needs and would work closely with the department programs in Digital Media Art and Photography. The successful candidate will be required to serve on graduate committees and work closely with the graduate students. She or he would also be expected to oversee and supervise 2D Foundations and BA Studio Practice students, and advise them through their 4 years of study, which will include their independent capstone requirement.

Qualifications:
Master of Fine Arts or Ph.D. in Painting, Printmaking, or related field of studio art;
A demonstrated commitment to innovative and interdisciplinary pictorial practice;
An ability to collaborate across all disciplines represented by the department;
Teaching experience in painting and at least one other area of pictorial art;
Ability to teach upper-division painting and/or printmaking classes, as well as lower-division 2-D foundations;
Familiarity with a wide range of pictorial processes and media;
Demonstrated artistic achievement as evidenced by a record of artistic exhibition and academic research in pictorial art;
Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population, such as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experiences;
Minimum of two years teaching experience at the university level is preferred.

Responsibilities:
Teach existing and develop new foundations, pictorial, and interdisciplinary courses;
Work across disciplines in the arts to engage with emerging trends at the intersection of contemporary art, pedagogical practice, and entrepreneurial skills that foster connections with creative professionals;
Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity—in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language, and academic preparation—through course materials, teaching strategies, and
advisement;
Effectiveness in academic assignment; service on department, college, and university committees; and continuing creative and professional activity are required to achieve tenure and promotion.
