POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Department of Art History at Florida State University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment with a 2/2 teaching load. The field of specialization is open; we seek a scholar whose research interests will contribute to our faculty strengths and attract new constituents to our programs (BA, MA, PhD). The ideal candidate will demonstrate how their methodological, theoretical, and evidentiary perspectives in research and teaching will intersect and expand departmental activities in medieval, early modern, Ibero-American colonial, Caribbean, contemporary African, African diasporas, modern and contemporary art, the visual cultures of the Americas, our program in Museum and Cultural Heritage Studies (MCHS), and in our study-abroad centers in FSU’s International Programs.

New faculty will participate in our robust undergraduate and graduate programs at the MA/PhD levels. Our department boasts a diverse group of graduate students who teach and mentor a large undergraduate population in Tallahassee, Valencia, Florence, London, and in distance learning courses. Graduate students direct our annual graduate symposium, study at the John and Mable Ringling Museum in Sarasota, FL, participate in opportunities in our consortium with the Newberry and Folger Libraries, and organize film screenings and exhibitions in our MCHS program.

As a Research 1 institution, FSU supports faculty research at the highest level and allocates funds for research and conference travel. Additional competitive internal funding is available through the FSU Council on Research & Creativity.

QUALIFICATIONS
PhD (disciplinary specialization is open), or equivalent international degree, from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
