Assistant Professor – Art Printmaking

The Art Department at The City College of New York, CUNY, invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor position in contemporary printmaking practices beginning August 2019.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Printmaking resides in the Studio Art area of the Art Department and serves a wide array of students from throughout the University: art majors, non-art majors, studio artists, students from the Electronic Design Multimedia (EDM) program, Art Education majors, Art History majors and students from both the Studio Art and Digital and Interdisciplinary Art Practice (DIAP) MFA programs. The ideal candidate will contribute to the department’s transdisciplinary perspective by teaching across the dynamic curriculum to service the needs of this diverse student body. Faculty members are expected to maintain active professional practices and participate in departmental and college-wide committees, service and leadership. The Assistant Professor in Printmaking will serve as the Printmaking Area Coordinator, whose duties include integrating digital media into the curriculum, maintaining equipment, scheduling, supervising shop assistants, coordinating adjunct instructors, maintaining budgets and ordering supplies.

FACILITIES
The printmaking area is housed in a Studio classroom, which is set up for silkscreen, intaglio, relief, lithography, photopolymer plates, and bookbinding. Candidate should be familiar with these techniques and our equipment, which includes: Charles Brand etching press, Charles Brand lithography press, Charles Brand hot plate,·Little John English etching press, large format one-arm squeegee silkscreen table, flip-top exposure unit for silkscreen and polymer plate etching, Apple computer systems available for digital design, Adobe Creative Suite, small format laser printer, 24" large format printer for large-scale films output, book press, acid bathes, nitric and ferric chloride, rosin box for aquatinting intaglio etching plates, and a high pressure washer.

QUALIFICATIONS
We seek a printmaker with a broad knowledge of traditional and new forms of printmaking that expand the practice and intellectual conversations of the field. Artists with strong printmaking practice that also may include cross-disciplinary work including but not limited to, installation, performance, painting, publishing projects or socially engaged practice are encouraged to apply.

The candidate must have a Masters in Fine Arts in Printmaking or a related field; demonstrate a strong record of achievement in printmaking with an active exhibition record; and at least one year minimum of college teaching beyond the level of the graduate assistantship. Candidate should have superb organizational and administrative skills, and should be conversant in printmaking history, theory/methodology, and current directions in related technology.
