Artist in Residence (AIR) – Brooklyn Public Library

The Artist in Residence (AIR) program will sponsor residencies to approximately 6-8 local artists from Bedford Stuyvesant and Crown Heights communities. Residencies of four to ten weeks include studio space, stipends and program supplies. AIRs become part of a dynamic community of artists participating in the libraries other programs, allowing for exchange and collaborative relationships to develop between the artists and Brooklyn Public Library. Artists also have the option of creating a piece of art during the residency period that will belong will become a part of the library’s collection. Artists selected for this program are at all stages in their careers and work in all media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, film, video, new media, installation, fiction and nonfiction writing, poetry, dance, music, interdisciplinary, social practice, and architecture.

Who can enter?
Artist-in-Residence is open to Bed-Stuy and Crown Heights residents. They must not currently be enrolled in an academic program and must be able to speak English.

How do I apply?
The application process will be open from February 5, 2018 through February 28, 2018.

What samples should I provide with the application?
The application requires you to upload two files to show examples of your work, and these can be PDF, JPG, or PNG files. These samples do not have to be related to your goals for the residency, they just need to showcase your work. Video samples are also accepted, however they must be hosted on a separate website and a link must be able to be provided.

When is the residency?
Residency period is March to August 2018.
