Fine Art Printer
Lower East Side Printshop invites applications for the full-time position of Fine Art Printer.
The Printer collaborates with emerging and mid-career artists on several Printshop-published projects per year, and many contracted projects daily. The Printer works with the artists by providing artistic advice, ideas, and guidance, researching and acquiring materials, and by fully executing/producing the projects and archiving the artwork. The projects, while often the first printmaking experiences for the artists, are of high artistic merit and professional quality. Some of the most recent artists the Lower East Side Printshop has worked with include Derrick Adams, Dread Scott, Hank Willis Thomas, Jeffrey Gibson, Arturo Herrera, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Saya Woolfalk, and others.
The Printer oversees other studio activities, such as managing studio equipment and supplies, and training and supervising studio interns and volunteers. They also participate in all other Printshop activities, such as exhibitions, fairs, shared studio residencies, tours and workshops, etc. The Printer reports directly to Executive Director and works closely with other staff. They interact with class instructors, resident artists, the Board of Directors, and the outside community such as curators, dealers, collectors, and the general public.
About the Lower East Side Printshop:
The Lower East Side Printshop, established in 1968, is a dynamic not-for-profit printmaking workshop that promotes and advances the art of printmaking. The Printshop facilitates the creation of new artwork in print by providing studio space, as well as technical and financial assistance for artists. The Printshop promotes artistic excellence in collaborations with artists at all career stages, and of diverse backgrounds. It offers educational programming in printmaking, such as classes, lectures, and internships. It encourages collecting and appreciation of contemporary prints through sale and exhibition events, while promoting and encouraging the use of environmentally friendly materials and procedures, and fostering innovation and experimentation in printmaking.
Artworks created at the Printshop are included in numerous museum collections, such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Brooklyn Museum, New York Public Library, New-York Historical Society, and others.
Qualifications:
• Experienced and proficient in digital, screenprinting, intaglio, and combined techniques;
• Experience in independent collaborations with individual artists;
• Well organized, independent, good at multi-tasking, team player;
• Understanding of - and sensitive to - artists’ needs, as well as patient and flexible;
• Helpful computer skills: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, File Maker Pro, Internet research.
Hours: Full time, 40 hours per week
Starting salary: commensurate with experience + benefits
