The Department of Printmedia at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) invites applications for a Full-Time Visiting Artist position, beginning August 2021. The department seeks candidates with a strong studio practice that furthers the department's commitment to a broad use and interpretation of contemporary printmedia and related disciplines. The ideal candidate is capable of teaching across the present curriculum, and is well versed in contemporary theoretical and critical issues within contemporary art. Rank and salary are competitive with peer institutions and are commensurate with level of practice, scholarship, and current academic research, extent of teaching experience, and current professional standing. The ideal candidate will contribute to the diversity of the School by bringing a perspective, way of thinking, and/or a unique set of experiences that expand the intellectual conversations and artistic practice in the field.

PROGRAM PROFILE

The Department of Printmedia offers an interdisciplinary exploration of printmaking that prizes experimentation and emphasizes the research and discovery needed to bring ideas to fruition. Printmedia students use a broad range of tools and methods including intaglio, relief, screenprinting, lithography, artists books, offset, riso and digital production with an emphasis on individual practice, research, and historical precedents. The department has five full-time faculty, 24 dedicated Master of Fine Arts (MFA) students, and over 700 undergraduate enrollments in approximately 60 courses each year.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Full-Time Visiting Artist in Printmedia will teach and advise undergraduate and graduate students within the interdisciplinary art and design school environment of SAIC. The Full-Time Visiting Artist will teach 3 courses in each of the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters and participate in critiques and reviews of graduate students.

QUALIFICATIONS

An MFA in Studio Art or a terminal degree in a relevant field of study is required. Some college level teaching experience is preferred. Experience in print techniques and processes such as screenprinting, lithography, etching, relief, and digital technologies is required. Working knowledge of artists books, offset productions, and risography is desired. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of SAIC, the ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of contemporary art practices and theories, and have a capacity to engage and advise students from multiple disciplines. We seek candidates with the knowledge and aptitude to teach and mentor students from diverse backgrounds.
