Assistant Professor of Drawing and Printmaking

Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute, located in Utica, NY, is seeking to fill a full-time Assistant Professor of Drawing/Printmaking in its PrattMWP College of Art and Design program starting Fall 2021. The qualifications of the candidate should include a an MFA with expertise in drawing. Preference will be afforded to applicants with significant experience working in all major printmaking areas including intaglio, lithography, relief and silkscreen with ability to teach contemporary (photo and digital techniques) and traditional methods at all levels. Ability to teach foundation classes in drawing or 2D design is necessary. The ideal candidate will coordinate and supervise the print studio, including budget, and training and supervision of work-study students.

Our printmaking facility is a “green” shop utilizing the least toxic methods available, preferred candidates should be comfortable in “green” practices. Faculty members are expected to be active as creative and exhibiting artists and participate in service to the PrattMWP program and Institute. Preference will be given to candidates with at least 3 years experience teaching in higher education.

PrattMWP College of Art and Design is an NASAD accredited foundation college art program, created through an affiliation between Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute, Utica, NY, and Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY. Students do their first two foundation years of a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree at PrattMWP, and then matriculate to the Brooklyn campus for completion. The PrattMWP campus houses approximately 190 students majoring in Fine Arts, Communications Design, Photography, and Art and Design Education.

Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute is located in the heart of New York State, foothills of the Adirondack Mountains and centrally located with easy travel to Cooperstown, Albany, Syracuse and a few hours from Boston, NYC, Lake Placid and Montreal.

MWPAI is a multicultural arts center with three main divisions: Museum of Art, School of Art and Performing Arts. Together, the programs of the three divisions make MWPAI the chief provider of cultural resources in the region. The Museum of Art is renowned for its art collection and Phillip Johnson-designed building. The School of Art offers the nationally accredited PrattMWP foundation program in its affiliation with Pratt Institute and a community arts education program offering art and dance classes. The Performing Arts division offers a wide-ranging, year-round programming of artistically excellent and diverse performing arts and cinema presentations, as well as extensive educational activities.
