Prints and Drawings Internship (Summer 2020, Paid)

The Department of Prints and Drawings is pleased to offer a paid internship for Summer 2020. Every intern receives training related to identifying print and drawing techniques, the care and handling of works on paper, collection database software, object-based research, and museum policy issues such as ethics and security. Interns will have the opportunity to work closely with curators both on individual research projects and in the context of the regular operation of the study room.

INTERNSHIP OUTCOMES:
• Hands on experience with works on paper
• Deeper understanding of print and drawing techniques and object research
• Exposure to curatorial and museum practices
• Mentor relationships with field practitioners

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist in the daily operation of the study room
• Artist and object-based research relating to upcoming exhibitions
• Assist in the writing of justifications for new acquisitions
• On-line cataloging of the collection
• Label writing for rotating exhibitions

Qualifications
• Upper-level undergraduate or graduate student with a major in art history or studio art. Must have completed two or more years of college-level coursework in art history and/or studio art.
• Must be willing and able to commit to 4 full working days per week for the length of the summer term (approx. 10 weeks).
• Must be able to attend 2 scheduled orientation/training days.
• Relevant experience with works on paper, art history research, and collection management.
• Excellent writing skills and one or more foreign languages preferred (especially French, Spanish, Italian, or German).
