The Work Study Research Assistant will assist the Assistant Curator of Japanese Art with Tasks related to the Japanese Print Initiative, a special project to research, document, and publish online the Museum's permanent collection of Japanese prints.

To be considered for this position, the applicant *must* be eligible for the Federal Work Study program through Portland State University.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Compile a list of artist websites and obtaining contact information for artists and/or their estates
Search the collections database
Object research including comparanda (the same print in other collections)
Locate reference resources
Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a current student eligible for Federal Work Study
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Accurately perform highly detailed work (using software like Excel, Word, and databases)
Posses a strong interest in Japanese art, history, and/or culture, with a desire to learn more about traditional and modern Japanese prints
Prior coursework in art history or Asian studies classes and experience or interest in art museums and/or curatorial is a plus
Note that Japanese language skills are not required, however, successful applicants with Japanese language ability may be given more advanced curatorial research tasks
