Summer Internships at the Saint Louis Art Museum (Full-Time, Paid)
The Saint Louis Art Museum is offering four full-time paid summer internships in 2019.
Summer Interns will be exposed to the breadth of work taking place at the Museum through project work and a series of talks and tours. Each intern will work on specific projects, primarily with curatorial staff; some projects will involve or might be led by staff in other active art-related groups such as collections, registration, exhibitions, or learning and engagement. Examples of interns' potential tasks include research on or cataloging of works of art, preparation for future installations and exhibitions, or interpretation of objects for a range of audiences; all projects will give interns professional development learning opportunities, and provide meaningful support for the Museum's art-related initiatives.
The Saint Louis Art Museum is home to a collection of over 34,000 works from around the globe, art that dates from ancient times to the present. In collaboration with colleagues throughout the Museum, curatorial staff in seven departments collect, study, interpret, and display objects that are considered in geographic, chronological, or media-based categories.
The curatorial departments are:
• Prints, Drawings, and Photographs
• Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas
(includes ancient South and Central American art, and ancient to contemporary Native American art)
• Asian Art (art of Japan, Korea, China, other Asian cultures; plus Islamic art)
• American Art (U.S. Colonial to 20th Century)
• Decorative Arts and Design
• European Art to 1800 (includes ancient Mediterranean art)
• Modern and Contemporary Art
For all four internships:
