The Princeton University Art Museum, one of the nation's preeminent cultural institutions in an academic setting, seeks applications for the position of Collections Technician to join a team dedicated to improving access to the Museum's drawing collections. The project is expected to encompass approximately 2,400 hours of work that is approximately equivalent to a part-time, 50% work schedule (20 hours per week) for 28 months or full-time 100% schedule (40 hours per week) for 14 months. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within the context of an art museum that is intimate in scale yet expansive in scope, supporting one of the most dynamic exhibition programs on any college campus and a program of educational activities and events that continues to grow in energy and impact each year.

Its collections of Chinese painting, the art of the ancient Americas, and photography are widely regarded as being among the world's finest.

Responsibilities ----
The primary responsibility of the Collections Technician is to fulfill collections re-housing assignments by strictly adhering to professional practices and ethics for object care, movement, and storage. As a part of the Museum's Collections and Exhibitions department, the Technician will report to the Associate Curator of Prints and Drawings. S/he will be trained in best practices and will be expected to mat, hinge, and house drawings by artists of all nationalities, from the 16th to the 20th centuries. The Technician must be able to communicate clearly, accurately record new locations of drawings, and understand fully the responsibilities associated with the handling of rare works of art on paper.

Job duties include ---
Create approximately 1,200 new mats for drawings, safely hinge the drawings into new mats according to accepted archival museum standards, and properly label each new mat, working in close cooperation with the Associate Curator of Prints and Drawings.
Assist with the reorganization of storage needs arising from the proper housing of the newly matted drawings.
Accurately record new locations of drawings in the Museum's collection information system, The Museum System (TMS)

Qualifications ----
- Bachelor's degree is required, M.A. or MFA with a general knowledge of art history highly preferred
- One to three years' experience in a museum or gallery setting as a fine art or conservation technician, or in collections management, preferably working with works of art on paper and with experience cutting mats to archival standards
- Demonstrated experience handling works of art on paper responsibly in a museum environment
- Familiarity with artists' drawing methods, materials, and techniques
- Excellent communication and problem solving skills
- The ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively and in an academic environment
- Experience with collections information systems with TMS preferred
- Detail oriented, self-motivated, and a keen sense of mission
