Call for Proposals: “On Resistance”
Art in Print is inviting proposals for its September-October 2017 issue, “On Resistance.”
Resistance, in its material and chemical forms, is fundamental to the production of printed images—knife against wood, acid against wax, grease against water. At the same time, social and political resistance has been a persistent impetus for printed images, and for strategies of image distribution and use. In this fraught historical moment, when resistance is repeatedly invoked as tool of ethical survival, we are asking artists, writers, scholars, and other interested parties to consider resistance both past and present, aphoristic and physical.
Potential subjects include (but are not limited to) historical studies, profiles of contemporary artists and/or collectives, considerations of resistance as a means of making, or a means of standing one’s ground. We also welcome reviews of books, exhibitions or artworks relevant to this theme.
Feature articles and interviews: 2500–3000 words.
Short essays: 500-1000 words
Book and/or exhibition reviews: 500-1500 words.
New edition reviews: 300-500 words.
Please send a brief proposal to Susan Tallman st@artinprint.org. If you have not written for us before, please also include a writing sample and CV.
Proposal deadline: 15 April 2017
Text submission deadline: 15 June 2017.
