Curator of Maps and Graphics at the William L. Clements Library
The William L. Clements Library at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor seeks candidates for the position of Curator of Maps and Graphics to help build on the strengths of collections of national significance and expand the discoverability of and access to those collections. Including materials that span the 16th to the 20th centuries, our holdings offer rich resources for researchers, students, and the general public.
Reporting to the Director of the Clements Library, you will be responsible for collection development, conservation, and access for maps and graphic arts materials in the Clements collections. You will serve scholarship and creative research, encouraging imaginative approaches to visual culture as part of our mission to emphasize in-person, direct examination of original primary source materials.
The genres housed in the Graphics & Map Division include:
- Prints, engravings, lithographs from the 16th to 20th centuries
- Atlases and maps (printed and manuscript) from the 15th to 20th centuries
- Photographs from 1840s into the 20th century
- Original drawings, watercolors, oil paintings
- Printed ephemera
- Three-dimensional objects (realia)
- American popular sheet music from the 19th and early 20th centuries
