The Engagement Program for International Curators is a 12-month Program accepting TWO non-US based curators (International Awardees) and TWO US-based curators (US Liaisons) working on or having worked within exhibitions and projects that explore historical art of the United States (c. 1500-1980), including painting; sculpture; works on paper, such as prints, drawing and photography; decorative arts; performance; and design (except industrial). Architecture and commercial film are excluded. Native American art is eligible for consideration.

Each International Awardee is paired with a US Liaison for a year-long partnership (beginning January 2020) dedicated to professional development and exchange in areas of advancement. The Program includes travel funding for Awardees, a participant stipend for US Liaisons, networking, and other benefits, which are outlined below in greater detail. Two pairings are awarded each year.

Program components include:
Partnership between US Liaison & International Awardee, including one in-person meeting at the US Liaison’s institution, between May 1 and December 1, 2020. The Awardee receives a $2,750 travel stipend for this trip, which not expected to last more than 5 business days. The pairing will discuss and develop the goals submitted within the Awardee’s application. While we welcome goals oriented around developing scholarly pursuits within the American Art parameters outlined above, we are seeking goals that focus on overall curatorial career and professional skill development. Areas of advancement could include research, project management, leadership development, cross-border exhibitions, loans, fundraising, marketing, dealer and donor relationships, and other such areas.

Travel Funding and complimentary registration to attend AAMC & AAMC Foundation’s Annual Conference & Meeting, May 2-6, 2020 in Seattle, WA. The Awardee receives a $2,500 stipend for this trip.

Developing a webinar presentation for the full AAMC membership.

Invitation to the Annual Program Alumni Reception held during the Conference on Sunday, May 3, 2020 in Seattle, Washington.

Providing a mid-program check-in, a final report and program evaluation survey.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
All applicants must be art curators at non-profit organizations, with direct responsibility for works of art. In addition, curators and others that work a minimum of 50% of the time for/with non-profit organizations will be considered. Please note that curators working in four wall collecting and non-collecting, community based, and non-four wall organizations, at any location in the globe are eligible.

All applicants must be with or have worked with exhibitions, collections and projects that explore historical art of the United States (c. 1500-1980), including painting; sculpture; works on paper, such as prints, drawing and photography; decorative arts; performance; and design (except industrial). Architecture and commercial film are excluded. Native American art is eligible for consideration.

All applicants must be able to commit to participating in a 12-month Program at the time of application, including the all deadlines (non-negotiable), timelines, and travel. A stipend is granted as part of this Program to accommodate the travel requirements.

DEADLINE
Applications for the AAMC Foundation Engagement Program for International Curators opens on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 and the final deadline for submitting and application is 12pm ET on Thursday, October 24, 2019.
